TAFTVILLE Fire Scare on Providence Street Fri- day Afternoon—Holiday Hours at Postoffice—Deers Defeated Elks— Notes. Smoke issuing from the residence of - | Joseph Tetreauit, corner of Providence street ana Slater avenue, caused a fire scare for a few minutes Friday after- noon aboit 2 o'clock. Miss Marie Lambert, who lives next door to the Tetreault tenement, saw smoke issu- ing from the house and spread the alarm. Someone went down to fire headquartera on the run and in_the space of a very few moments the hose carriage and hook and ladder company No, 1 were on the scene. Entrance was gained to the house and it was found that the only fire was a burning wick in a small ofl stove. It was later learned that the family had gone out and left the oil stove burning. The oil burned out and the wick began _to smoke. No damage other tham that from smoke resulted. Elks Lost to Deers.
