S., will speak at the regular monthly meeting of the Norwich Equal Fran- chise league at the Norwich club this afternoon at 3.30 o'clock. Mr., John- son's subject will be war conditions in Europe especially as they affect wo- men. This {s an open meeting to which all are invited and will be preceded by the regular business meeting of the league at ? o'clock. A special pro- gramme is arrarged for each meet- ing and the leaguc is fortunate in se- curing Mr. Johuson this meonth. Philadelphia, Jan. 7—Three indict- ments charging the Philadelphia and Reading railway with breaches of the interstate commerce law in the trans- portation of anthracite and bitumin- ous coal were returned here yesterday by a federal grand jury. Failure to file tariffs for freight transported by barges from this city to New England points, extending shivpers’ privileges and facilities in transportation not speciiled in the tarifis filed and the failure to collect demurrage on ship- merts from the mines to Philadelphia are among the charges upon which the indictments are based. There were a total of 120 counts in the three indict- ments and if convictions are obtained fines aggregating $1,650,000 can be im- posed by the court. Admissfon by rallroad men during Tecent rate hearings led to the investi- zation by the grand jury at the sug- ®estion of the interstate commerce commission.
