Hutchinson has returned to ‘her home in Brooklyn after spend- ing two weeks at Olin Boynton's. - GOSHEN Annual Picnic of Ladies’ Aid Society— Conaiderable Damage by Lightning During Recent Storm. A company of young people from this place neld a picnic at Gardmer Lake Thursday. Mr. and Mre. A. E. Lyman of Colum- bia were callers in Goshen Sunday evening. The trip was made in Mr. Lyman’s new touring car. Annual Picnic. The Ledies’ Aid society held their annual picnic on the church lawn ‘Wednesday. Tables were set under the shady maples and dinner was served at 1 o'clock. A number of games were played. Nearly 60 were in attendance. Agricultural Gathering. Quite a number from this place at- tended the Lebanon young people’s ag- ricultural picnic held in Lebanon Cen- ter Wednesday afternoon. Those who attended report a very enjoyable time and an attendance of several hundred. It is planned by the club to hold a fair or agricultural exhibit later in the Storm Damage. During the recent thunder shower many strange freaks of the lightning were reported. One man while sitting at a metallic covered table reading was hit on the elbow by a red ball of the electric fluid, a number of telephones were burned out. FRANKLIN Surgfiu Shower for Miss Eleanor Beckwith—In Honor of Ker Ap- proaching [Marriage—Many Gifts Roceived, About seventy-five gathered at the casant home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles ckwith, Thursday evening, to give their daughter Miss Eleanor Beck- with a surprise shower, in honor of her approaching marriage with Arthur Louis Smith. While Miss Beckwith ‘Wwas away for a short time, the friends rlthered under the shade of the beau- iful maples and tables were quickly spread. Upon her return Rev. Mr. Capshaw made the presentation - sdeech, Miss Beckwith replying brief- ly. The gifts were many and useful. Friends were pre- sent from Norwich, Lebanon, Yantic, ‘Worcester, Boston and New York. - HAMBURG Death of Samuel Beckwith—Steam Drill at Work Here—L. B. S. Sale Successful. Mrs. Jared Daniels, Jr. is enter- taining her aunt, Miss Biackman of New Haven. Lyme grange conferged the third and fourth degrees August 20. Samuel Beckwith passed away at Lis home Thursday morning at seven o'clock, after a shock occurring on Monday while working on Ely meadow haying. He is survived by a wife and five children.
