Palmer, one or both- of ‘Whom 1ived in Stonington, had rented two steamers to the government during the Civil war. They emploved a lafwyer, R. J. Atkingon of Washington, D. C. t0 prosecute their claim before the of ficers of the governmentt for services of the steamers Anglo-American and St. Charles in the vear 1862. This A'._- torney obtained for them $45,925.17, allowed by the United States. 3 Atkinson died and James H. Em- bry was appointed his administrator and he made a demand upon Messrs. Stanton and Palmer for Per cent. of this money, $2,286.25, and he s!\ed them in the superior court of New London county.
