C.’J. Bates & Son Increase Manufsc- - turing Plant—Plans For Two New Buildings. C. J. Bates & Son have started preparations for extensive alterations at their manufacturing plant in this twon. " Some 18 months ago Méssrs. Bates & Son who are extensive manufactur- ers of manicure gopds and instru- ments, purchased Kirschbaum & Bros., manufacturers of fine cutlery, surgical and manicure in< struments, jocated in New Jersey. The firm loys about 40 men. The mat- te~ of removing the plant'to Chester has been under consideration for sev- eral months. Now that the matter has been definitely decided upeon, it has become necessary to accommodate the additional business. Plans have been prepared for two separate buiid- ings, the first to be a two-story brick factory, 70x30 feet and the other a one-story building, 26x25 feet, the latter building to be used exclusively for the for department. he firm is in hopes to begin active work not later than Aug. 1 and to haye it completed by Oct, 1. The firm ‘em- | ploys about 85 men at its factory in this place the year round. Hamilton C. Bates, the. junior member of the firm, in speaking of the change a few days ago, sald the greatest difficulty anticipated in removing the plant from Newark to Chester was the ques- tion of help. Undoubtedly the firm would be able to induce the most of the employes to remove to Chester, but there would be difficulty in find- ing enough rents to accommodate them. They had, he sald, purchased two or three houses recently and were having them made into double tene- ments as far as they could, but they would be unable to proyide rénts for them all. The firm had been offered some very good inducements to re- main in Newark. —_— Hot Weather Tonic and Health Builder Are you run down—nervous—tired? 1s everything you do an effort?
