STODDARD MOUNTAIN BURNED OVER ‘Growth of Pine and Cedar Destroyed—Barn ‘Belonging- to Billings F. S. Crandall Destroyed—Fire Held Off From "BULLETIN POINTERS _ - - Dwelling House and Gotten Under Control. ~ ‘What ‘is known as Stoddard moun- tain in Ledyard, and is owned by Bil- lings ¥. S. Crandall, was burned over on Wednesday by a fire which was discovered shortly after noon and was not under control until about 4 o'clock. An unoccupied barn on the land was totally destroyed at a loss of about $800 to $900, and the fine growth of pine and cedar on the mountain was swept off as if it had been shaved. The loss on this will be large, but Mr. Crandall was unable to estimate how much Wednesday night. There was no insurance on the barn. The fire started on the opposite side of the mountain from that on which the Crandall house is and was first seen by Mrs. Pierce, whose place to Mr. Crandail, who took direction of a gang of about 25 men who were got- ten together as soon as possible in the ! is | farther down the river.
