Playing under the title of All Stars, the fastest baseball team which Nor- wich has seen In some years defeated the State hospital nine by the score of 6 to 3 on the hospital grounds Tuesday afternoon. The home team was beates all the way and the score Dby no means shows the_disparity be- tween: the two teams. Picket, a new left handed _twirler, made his debut with the home team and although he was ‘hit_hard and often, he pitched a heady game and but for his clever work the score would undoubtedly have Dbeen much larger. Hospital Entirely Outclassed. The All Stars played a remarkably clever ‘game in every department. Croker, the former N. F. A. twirler, and this years mainstay in the box for Colgate college, twirled for the visiting combination and had things all his own way throughout the game. He received brilliant support. Jimmy Murray, recently elected captain of Trinity’s 1914 squad, stood out as a scintillating light at the third station and swung the war club effectively, getting away with a four base clout, a double and a single in five trips to the plate. He also showed remarkable speed on the bases. Croker contrib- uted rather more than’his share to the excitement by driving out two triples and a single in four chances, and scoring three runs. Eddle McKay pro- duced a homer and a single in four trips up and Eddie Murray, following in the footsteps of his lilustrious broth- er ang inspired by the latter's example banged out a triple and two singles in four chances, A new regulation, barring outside players, went into effect at the hos- pital Tuesday, o that the team was perhaps somewhat weaker than in the past. Pickett played a clever fielding game, being credited with—five assists and three putouts. He held the run- ners tight to the sacks after he had picked off several promising young runners at the get-away sack, by his Quick throws, The home team pulled two tallles in the fourth on singles by Sam Austin, Virt and Fielding and an error by McKay, Their final score was Becured in the following session, Pickett was hit in the arm, taking first} but at- tempteq to pilfer the second bag and was caught, Walsh to McKay, Bunk's arm was working in great style and the hospital runner who dared attempt to purioin second was a sure out. Mec- Kay covered the bag in classy style, Co rhett tripled and scered when Chase singled. Chase was caught napping off first and McGraw hit a pop fiy to Jimmy Murray, retiring the side, Homers by McKay and J. Murray, The Stars began the business of | contest. scoring runs in the second session, when with one down McKay hit for the circuit. In the third Stanley flied out to McGraw. Croker pounded the pill for three sacks and scored when | Jimmy Murray drove. the ball to the new ward building for a round trip. Standish went out, McGraw to Vint and Houlihas grounded out, Pickett {o vint. In the fifth Croker singled, made third on Vint's error in handling the ball and came actoss the pan when J. Murray singled. In the seventh Croker poled out a ticket that was punched for three stations and trotted over the rubber on a single by Standish. The Stars secureq their final tally in the eighth, after, two vere down, on singles by Eddie Murray and Bunk Walsh and an error by Sam Austin. The longest clout of the day was registered by Eddie Murray in the sixth when he pushed the horsehide past the corner of the new ward buiding in center, making three bases on the hit. Walsh grounded out, leaving Eddie stranded at_the third stop. The hospital had one excellent op- portunity to score when they filled the sacks in the sixth with none down, but Hawkins hit to Croker, who threw to Walsh, forcing Sam ‘Austin at the plate, and Walsh threw to Jack Crowe, nailing Hawkins at first. Walsh threw a bluff at catching Fielding off second and Eddfe Murray returned the ball in time to nail Vint at.the plate. Wicks Proves Unpopular. In the early part of the game Bill ‘Wicks got in wrong with the fans by some of his decisions, and the bleach- erites kept up a running fire at the arbitrator during the balance of the No doubt Bill decided the plays as he saw them, but it is equally certain that in some instances he w the only one to see them in just that night. | The score: AN Stars Hospital. b hpo s ol W o s e 3Muray3h 5 83 1 350 andishir & 11 00 31100 Doulltan.at 5 0 0 0 1 ¢16130 3.Ceowedb 5 210 8 0 4853 870 Whedb € 2413 81214871 EMurays 4 3 1 1 0 Y3 aaie 1 Waishe & 156 9 ¥ a2t Saciert 2 0 1 30 ‘0000 Bowws 18110 20000 Crokes 4 8 3 5 of 10001 Totats, $815% 17 4| Totals, 2107 15 4 Soore by inninge: AL Stars 61861061184 Hosital , 00021000803 Tws baselits, I. FINANCIAL AND COMMERCIAL HIGHER FIGURES REACHED. Market Cheered and Encouraged by Buying for London Account. New York, June 24.—Improvement of the principal foreign markets was of direct bearing today upon movements of stocks here, which carried them to materially higher flgures. Since the | outbreak of the Balkan war last year the disturbed state of affalrs has been recognized as one of the largest fac- tors in the depression of the home market. While foreign money markets are still under strain, with a long period of enforced conservatism ahead, there was evident today a definite im- provement, which was reflected in the course of the securities markets at the principal forelgn centers. m Lon- don came word that-anxiefy over the settlement, which was thought recent- ly to present a serious menace, had abated. Following the London settle- ment, comes the half yearly settlement at Berlin, and it is thought probable that little more dificulty will be ex- perienced there than attended the last Quarterly settlement. The Imperial Bank of Germany ls considerably stronger in cash reserves than it was three months ago. It was the opinion of bankers here that if both the Lon- don and Berlin settlement periods should be passed With no serious em- barrassment, the markets of Europe might make a definite response. The better feeling In London was expressed in concrete form by the pur- chase here of 20,000 to 25000 shares for London account, principally of Steel, Amalgamated, the Harrimans and Canadian Pacific. This buying was one of the chief influences in the early trading, in which prices went up swifily. Sentiment was more cheer- ful and operations for the long account ‘were carried on with increased confi- dence. There was no sustained de- mand on a large scale, however, and part of the early gains were lost in a mid-session slump but toward the close bidding increased. Final prices were the best of the day. with gains running up to three points In the case of Union Pacific and Canadian Pa- cific. Despite the recent decline in copper metal, the copper stocks were conspic- uous in the day's rise. An advance in the London metal ' market prompted covering.
