The cause of temperance from the prohibition standpoint was presented at the M. E. church Tuesday evening, County Organizer Ernest Allison Smith of the prohibition party, from Nor- wich, accompanied by Rev. M. R, French of Norwich Town and, Captain Jason L. Randall of Groton, addressed a small audience of interested listen- ers. Organizer Smith gave reasons for the non-enforcement of present laws, and spoke of the attitude of church members emphasizing their duty by up- holding the only party whose platform declares against the liquor traffic. Rev. Mr. French spoke on the moral issues of the campaign, stating that this was his first venture in.the olitical field and of his willingness as a preacher to remain offt of politics, providing the saloon would do likewise. Captain Randall, who is a candidate for sen- ator cn the prohibition ticket, spoke from the standpoint that politics and religion are inseparable, emphx‘lflg’ personal responsibility. Personals. Twelve Boy Scouts with Scoutmaster Rev. Henry E. Anderson went on a hike Saturday morning to the horse pound. On arriving at the pound the Scouts partook of a lunch of boiled frankfurters, rolls and baked potatoes. The frankfurters were broiled over an open fire and the potatoes baked in the coats. At the last meeting of the Scouts a ccmmittee was appointed to see what could be done about sectring a nlace where rooms could be fitted up and kept open afternoons and even- ings for the use of the Scouts. Good progress has been made by the com- mittee and they hope to make a report at the next meeting. Married at Lewiston. Relatives and friends have received news of the marriage of Mrs. Anna L. Dennis, formerly of Old Mystic, and Rev. Samuel A. Blaisdell, pastor of the Pine street Free Baptist church of Lewiston, Me., which took place Fri- day, Sept. 12, at noon in the church of which the groom was pastor. The double ging service was performed by Dr. A. T. Salley, pastor of the Main street Free Baptist church. The wed- ding march was played by Mrs. Sadie Clark Tanner. The bride wore an im- ported gown of white pongee, a pres- ent from her brother, William Henry, a government official at Honolulu, She carried a large bouquet of bride roses. Rev. and Mrs. Blaisdell left on the early, afternoon train for Old Orchard Beach, where they spent a brief time at the bride's cottage. From thence they went to Boston. While in that city they visited with the groom’s daughter, Miss Helen Blaisdell, a stu- dent at Stmmons college.
