Mrs. Hattie Holgate, who has been visiting her parents here, has returned to her work at Wyoming. Bad Man Brown in Jail. Last Monday night Nathan Palmer, whe tives about four miles from this village, was awakened by a noise in his i, He went out and saw a man out of his vard with his ex- press wagon. He called to him, but the man struck the horse and went all the ! faster. Mr. Palm then called his neighbors for a and Fred Knight and George Money came to Dr. Kenyon's, in this village, to telephone for Sheriff Wilcox, it being the nearest telephone. The man or men stopped at A. M- Kenyon's and asked for a match and the way to Hope Valley. It was found later that the horse of Benjamin Fssex was Stolen, about a mile from Mr. Palmer's. The thief went to Moose Neck Hill, traded the rig and then drove to Washington village, put the horse in barn, got drunk and ended up in police station. His name was Brown. The chief of police at Washington noti- fled Sheriff Wilcox, who proceeded to arrest him, and placed him in Kingston jafl. Thursday of last week, while Mr Palmer was at the fair, about half of his poultry was stolen.
