O sald July §, 1912, the petitioners and the respondent compaby ppeared and were fully heard. The petitioners asked for the restg« ration of a certain early morning mail and passenger train which for more than thirty (30) vears last past was scheduled to leave New London about 445 o'clock a. m. running northerly through Norwich and other cities and villages in Connecticut to Palmer, Mase, which train and service, as an v ‘morning train, was recently dis- continued. Substitute for Discontinued Train. In substitution for the discontinued train, the’ respondent company has put on a well equipped express train between New London and Massachu- setts and other points northerly to Montreal, Canada. This express train service is undoybtedly a igreat accom- modation to peofje in New London and from other stopping points along the line desiring to use such service to and from points north of Connecticut, but does not afford a satisfactory substi- tute for the local passenger, mall and express service relied upon and af- forded by the early morning train which was recently discontinued. Strong Public Demand’ and Necessity. Practically all_the places along the line of this raiiroad In Connecticut north of New London were represented at the hearing, advocating and giving their reasons for the restoration of the early morning train, the principal rea- sons given being the accommodation afforded by the early morning mail and express service which they had enjoyed and the business, interests had become adapted to for the past long term of years. It did not appear that the passenger traffic on this train was very heavy or that the earnings of ghe train passenger revenues alone were cient to meet the expense of its ope tion, but it did appear that there strong public demand and necessi all along the line in Connecticut for the operation of this early morning train. From the evidence submitted, tie commission is of the opinion that the petitioners are entitled to practically the relief sought Order by Commission. It is therefore ordered that the Cen. tral Vermont Railway company be, and it hereby is, required and directed operate, on or before July 15, 19 local passenger and express train northerly from New ‘Lendon through Connecticut daily, except Sunday leaving New London not later than 5.45 o'clock a. m., nor earlier than 4.45 o'clock a. m., and also to operate a similar train dally, except unday.’| southerly over its line in Connecticut, leaving Palmer, Mass, about 115 o'clock p. m.
