Albert ¥, Wheeler and Willlam G. Stebbins, selectmen of the town of Groton, and Alpheus H. Schoonover, and Charles Q. Eldredge of Old Mystic, as representatives of the new Twe{tth school district, visited Hartford Fri- day to meet State Secretary C. D. Hine in regard to the duties of the district in legally conducting the school. The school board of Stonington had made a proposition to permit the chil- dren of the new Twelfth to continue attending the school in the village of 0ld Mystic and if they could be al- lowed to do so under the law, it was the wish of the district to bave them, as they by so doing would have the benefits of a graded school, which they could not have if the Twelfth built a new schoolhouse. Superintendent Hine informed the delegation that it would be legal, the respective school boards of the towns agreed thereto, and it was the wish of the districts, So the delega- tion was assured of their consent, they returned home well pleased with the result of their trip, Attending Summer School. The local auxiliary of the Woman’s Home Missionary society of the M. E. church was entertained by Mrs, John J. Lawless at the June meeting of the soclety on Tuesday afternoon. The literary programme opeped with an introductory reading on the Conserva- tion of National Ideals by Mrs. Thomas Latham, and was followed by a re- sponsive reading on Civic Righteous- ness. Then followed readings, The Sim- ple Life, by Mrs. Sarah Latimer, and The Signal of Warning by Mrs. Sarah Perkins, followed by a talk on Child Life Conserved, by Rev, C. Wil- son Harrison. The annual opening of the mite boxes occurred at the busi- ness session, over $15 being received from this collection. The election of officers occurred at this time, Mrs. Thomas Latham be- ing re-clected president. Miss Sarah er was named as first vice pres- ident, with Mrs. Richard Latimer as second wice president. Extinguished Woodland Fire. ‘While on their way to the ball field on Thursday afternoon, Norman Stan- dish and Herbert Bennett discovered a fire in the Alrlie woods. It required a number of the mill employes to extinguish the blaze. The cause of the fire is unknown. The Airlie baseball team went to Canterbury last Saturday and defeat- ed the team in that place 7-3, The Airlies expect to play the Canterburys in Hanover today (Saturday Airlle team’s new suits have arrived and are handsome. He was quite a long distance away but took good aim and shot the thief.
