Rwport W. Perkins, representing the Westerly & Connecticut Raflway Co., and Civil Engineer Shepard B. Palm- er and Supt. S. J. Kehoe, all of Nor- wich, attended the regular meeting of (Westerly town council, in support of & petition that, If granted, will result in the extension of the trolley system from Pleasant View to Weekapaug, to e in operation by July 1 of the pres- @mt year. In the matter of trolley ex- J‘the petition simply asks for a @smtinuance of authority that expired by limitation. Power to construct the goad was granted In 1909, the road 0 'bs completed within two years. This, of course, was not done, and now the council is asked for extension of time, Mr. Perkins explained that the material is in readiness for shipment and that a contractor is ready to be- gin the work without delay and have it completed by July L. He said that it was planned to erect @& casino and appurtenances at an ex- ponse of about $12,000 near the Fleas- ant View shore and 4400 feet from the Present terminal of the olectric road, Which would be opened to the use of the public and that no extra fare would be required to reach this resort, but that the additional fare would be for the ride between that point and Weekapaug, From the present termi- 2al to the breachway at_ Woekapaug, Mr. Perkins said was 12,600 feet, and that by July 1 it would be pa ble to ride from Norwich to Weekapaug without changing cars. Mr. Perkins said that the new fea- | ture asked right to build a pole line that crossed some of the highways on the outskirts of the town. He said that it was dem- onstrated last season that the power was inadequate for a haif-hour sched- ule between Westerly, Watch Hill and t View, and in order to apply the remedy and improve the general mervice it was proposed to erect this pole line with sub-station below Mis- tuzet brook. Mr. Perkins added that if power was granted by the town council to pro- ©ceed that the trackage would be com- pleted to the casino I ten | ¥ days, and that within thirty days the | track would be constructed to the breachway. It is planned to have the cars running to the casino site before the balance o he route is completed.
