The report shows that the salary | of the marshal has been the same for | sixteen years, and that the volume \uf: | herent business of the office has increased in that time about 40 per cent., and the population hug increased about 400, 000, it now has a population of 1,114, T56, and that there is no district hav ing e population of over 1,000,000 or more that the marshal receives a sal- ary of $3,00\ a year. The bill as it passed the senate pro vided for a salary of §3,000 a year, The ccmmittee recommend an amend- ment making it $2,600.
