A New London butcher purchased about 40 head of cattle at an auction in Willlmantic. In driving them to New London ope of the herd became exhausted while near Dr. Fox's resi- dence and fell in the road. The driver was unable to get the animal on its fect and finally secu the services of Edward Carter with his big wagon to carry the animal the rest of the way to New London. Nearby residents cov- ered the animal with blankets and made it ag comfortable as possible. Mrs. A. The body of Samue] Cole, for many vears resident of this town, was brought here from Canada on Thurs- day afternoon and laid to rest in the family lot at Robbins cemetery. The valentine social held - at the home of Mrs. William Sisson'last T'ri- day evening was a great success. Af- ter a short programme, lunch was served, after which there was much merriment over a postoffice which held valentine cards for all present.
