District Gonvention Good Templars Norwich Well Represented in the Election of Officers —Afternoon and Evening Session at Third Baptis The Business Center of Norwich ON STORE lind of Hartford; Church. District Chlef Templar W. Me- achlan of Hartford presided at the ceeting of the Independent Order of ~ood Templars of this district, held in the Third Baptist church at 4 o’clock Monday afternoen. Eight members of Buc] took the district degree. Fourteen delegates were pres- ent from District officers for the ensuing term were elected as follows: Chief lar, 3 of Hartford; dis- trict , Ermest Allison Smith of Norwich; viee lar, Miss Anna M. Lounsbury. At the evening session Grand Chiaf Templar John A. Akerlind presided. The meeting opened with a sone ser- vice and the speaker of the evening FEifora I. Lounsbury, of Unionville, Mrs, Ern treasurer, ville; marshal, was introduced, and during his addres: held the close attention of his audience. Good , stands for tetal atstinence in the in- Templary He said in part dividual and prohibition for the state. Science shews today that alcohol is a pcison. The word intoxication means irternal poisening. We should pe tem- perate in the use of coee and many other things, but with regard to poison there should b2 not temperance but total @abstinence. Two purposes of Geod Templary are to ecducate and irstruct the young and to lend a help- ing hand to those under the power of alcohol- Divisions on Every Continent. The Good Templars have d 2 every continent and in sixty countries. The world is our field. Good Templary enables the men and women to work together; it takes in the whole family. The speaker closed his address with a stirring_appeal to the people to aid and assist the cause of Good Templa and og total abstinence. A vote of thanks was extended to Mr. Lounsbury for his address and also to the convention for meeting in Nor- wich. Thanks were also extended to | those who entertained the delegates and to Mrs. Robert F. True and Mrs. William P Green, who served dinner to the delezates.
