ALONG AFRICAN TlAlLS : BY DR. C. H. PATTON. Chief Speaker at Eve Session of ‘Missionary Convention — Thirteen Missionaries Presented. Before a gathering which filled | Eroedway Congregational church on’ Wednesday evening, the evening ses- sion of the. Woman's Board of Mission convention was one of deep interest, being presided over by Mrs. Charles H. Daniels, president. Seated on the platform were about fifty of the chorus choir assembled for the occasion, and they sang with spirit and volume under the direction of F.! W. Lester. The responsive service and prayer was by Rev. Edward S. Worces- ter. The first speaker of the evening was Miss Mary Preston, secretary of the Toung People’s work, a yigorous voung reople's department being conducted by the board. What If, and Why Not? was the subject taken by Miss Pres- ton. a topic which permitted specula- tion and inguiry. Said Miss Preston: REYV, CORNELIUS H. PATTON. | What if all the young people should | go to the mission fields? That would bring about @ vast change here and there, with a reaction later. What if we refused to talke any interest i missions because we didn’t start them? What would be the effect of dropping all interest in such work” The resuit ould hardly be imagined. | What if the young people should open | their eyes and really look about the world? No doubt they would be able | to find that there is much go | done on the other the world. We know something aboi heme and vieinity, bat little about tl rneeds and extent of ths missi Should we look into the ves: Chinese and the great policy i in China and see the great st -to every| . the great need. | and to be an. woman and child the eagerness of the heathen for edu- cation, what then?
