Bristol Leads the: Way. 1t is hardly likely that the legislature will take action at tais session in the matter ¢f purification of streams. But the trouble-is growing constantly, and the day is not far distant,when the contamination must cease. There is a much more reasonable, scientific and satisfactory way of disposing of sew- age than dumping it into a river. Bris- tol has proven the practicability of the filtratlon system, and has given other growing towns an object lesson. Her experience proves that there is nothing particularly dificult in furnishing a thorouzhly satisfactory sewage system on modern and sanitary lines, without subjecting neighboring communities to annoyance. Bristol has worked out her problem in a businesslike and sen- sible way, and her experience should be valuable to others. It was believed when the filtration system vas estab- lisned that the refuse would bring some revenue as a fertilizer, but the efforts o0 utilize the waste were not success- though practical farmers in the inity of the sewer beds experiment- ed for several sersons.
