Mrs. George Wood and Miss Jennie Wood spent a few days last week with friends in Norwich, Mrs. Frank Miner and Miss Nettie Gridley spent Saturday afternoon at Ocean beach. Miss Ethel Boynton spent the Sab- bath at her home at Gardner Lake, returning with her sister, Miss Roby Boynton, Sunday evening. At the Thursday evening prayer- meeting, the church clerk, Frank Rog- ers, read the statistics and letter for the annual assoclational meeting to be held at the Huntington Avenue Baptist church, New London, in Sep- tember. The report was a great en- couragement to the members, Seven members have been added to the church, the church roll earefully re- vised, 23 names being erased; church buildings and parsonage repaired at an expense of about $1,700; the mis- sionary apportionment paid; all serv- ices well supported: the average at- tendance at the Christian Endeavor for past six months was 98 against 43 of the first six months of 1909. This seciety has mtributed $190 to- ward church expenses and the young ladies’ Friday club has earned and given $80. ‘he church -has expend- ed for all purposes over $2,900 against 41,332 last year, Mrs. Bert Cottrell, who has been quite ill, is much improved. The insurance agents from Hartford have inspected the ruins and adjusted the insurance satisfactorily on the Keyes Process company property. Albert Munger of Guilford was a visitor in this place Friday. Nearly Drowned in Watering Trough. Ernest Penharlow had a narrow es- cape from drowning Saturday night in the watering trough in this place. Penharlow was found with face submerged in the water by illiam West, whoe was carrying passengers from the car station. Mr. West drove up to the trough to water his herse, but found that for seme reason the horse would not go up to the trough as he customarily did. Upon getting out of tha vehicle to see what was the matter he found Pemharlow, who was returning from a trip to Norwich in an intoxicated condition, and had ev- idently stopped to get a drink, and being so drunk lost his balance, falling into the trough. Undoubtedly if he had not been.found by Mr. West he would have besn drowned. The water supply in wells and. cis- terns are getting low and the branch of Moosup river which furnishes power to run the dynamo which furnishes electricity by which Moosup streets are lighted is so low, that the lights have to be shut off early in the evening. Henry Havden, about 80 years of age, died at the home of his son-in- law, Patrick Loughren, eariy Sunday morning after several months’ iliness with heart trouble and other diseases.
