Thames’ lodge, No. 326, had a largely attended meeting in Foresters’ hall on Tuesday evening and a gathering of much enthusiasm, counting among those attending Grand Warden Whalen of New Haven, Supreme Trustee R. H. Small of New London and Sister Small, Grand Trustee E. M. Newbury of this’ city, William Kingdon of New London, deputy of Thames lodge, Sister Emily R. Kingdon, deputy of Eleazer Jewett lodge, and Sister Julia A. Archer of New London, deputy of Jordan lodge. - ‘Warden Henry A. Congdon presided and Supreme Trustee Small presented the commission of Mr. Kingdon, who is reappointed deputy for the lodge. He is a popu man in this place with Thames lodge and they were delighted to have him again in the office. The visiting officers spoke very acceptably and when Grand Warden Whalen took e < Whist Delaware jurisdiction, wnere a of 22.2 per cent. was made. The total membership of the whole order is now over 57,000, a gain during the past year of over 4,400 members. TWO IMPORTANT CASES IN THE CITY COURT. Those Against Joseph Swatzburg, Jr., and the Four Italians Who Woe: Connected with the Death of the Polish Young Man Come Up This Morning. There will probably be a long ses- sion of the city court today, as there are two important cases due to come up. The case against Joseph Swatz- burg, Jr., charged with fraud, is due for this morning, as as also the case against the four Italians, who have been held without bonds in connection Warning to Naugatuck. And now comes Naugatuck, with an alleged desire to become a city. Ac. cordingly it has attended to the se lection of a committee to frame a new charter, “a city charter if thought best.” It may prove for the best for Naugatuck to jump out of the frying pan into the five, but is she could con- suit the experiences of a whole lot of gang ridden, ring governed cities of the smalier type, she would be able to concentrate a whole lot of good advice; and the most of it, if taken from dis interested but distrec. 1 taxpayers, would be for her to keep her method of government ag simple as possible— as near the old plan of rule by select- men as the volume of her business will permit.
