Custom m Sisson ; f ' Mili—Autopsy in Rll-.v In the Dokerty death case, tne cor- oner has just received the analyses of the few drops of liquid left in the bottle from which the young man had drunk, but the result has not been an- nounced, the presumption being that the clunl of the Larrow, Hood and leaths are identical; and that e fllln& of facts with the Rhode Is- land authorities at this time, and un- der present conditions, would be su- ‘perfluous. All told, there haye been deaths in Paw: soned_whiskey” menced, and Coroner Bm'n has given every case his pes tention. Tn Westerty, " and DEgnhorhood 1n Rhode Island, during the same period, there have been ten sudden deaths, and the coroner held inquest in only ore case; and up to date the Rhode Island authorities, while intimating that most of the deaths were due to Dolsonea whiskey, and with proof pos itive that at least two of the cases in that state were directly due to wood. alcohol, have not held any individual or individuals as being responsible for the sale of whiskey that contained the wood alcohol that caused death. .The body chael * Riley, who e A g R Qlqu mmum tances, at his home in town of Charlestown, near the V&enerly ‘boundary line, was ‘brought here Monday evening, ' and Tuesday momlnf a post-mortem tion Dr. H. E. Roul& medical examiner for the town of Charlestown, in the Murphy undertaking establish- ment. He was assisted by Dr. A. Briggs of Ashaway, who it is Jald Secured an ante-mortem statement from Mr. Riley, stating where the whiskey, supposed to have caused the death, was purchased. Dr. J. Howard Morgan, medical examiner of the town of Westerly, and Dr. M. H. Scanlon, were present at the autopsy. The ex- amination was of over three hours' duration. Absolutely no trace of disease was found, not even of nephritis, which has been assigned as a cause for most of the sudden deaths. Therefore there is no doubt in the minds of the phys- icians at the post-mortem examination that death was due to poisoning. ‘The liquid substance of the skull, the ‘brains, and the stomach intact, will be taken to Harvard medical school for analysis by Professor Whitney, as will be also the remains of the liquor from which Mr. Riley drank. Medical Examiner Rouse will report the re- sult of the autopsy to George C. Cross, coroner for the town of Charles- town, who will hold an inquest. Coroner Everett A. Kingsley of Westerly has received a transcript of the testimony at_the inquest relative to the death of Daniel Sullivan, and will probably file his report with the clerk of the superior court and with Attorney General Greenough, on Wed- | mnesday or Thursday. Secretary Groff, of state pure- food and drn?’ commission, who has samples of whiskey procured in West- erly and other places in Rhode Island, has been il since his recent visit to Westerly, which he gives as a Teason why the samples have not been ana- lyzed. If it be found that the whis- key contained wood alcohol or other adulteration, effort will be made to locate the violators of the law and when located prosecution will follow under the provisions of the pure food law. Secretary Groff expected to ana- lyze the whiskey by Wednesday or Thursday. An_understanding has been reached between the striking weavers of the Lorraine mills, in Pawcatuck, and the local represeniative -of that big con- cern. A committee of the union waited upon the superintendent and stated that the weavers were willing to re- turn to work at any time and wit out expecting any concession from the Lorraine company. The committee were informed that when the weavers were wanted they would receive no- tificiation to that effect. The strike, was_caused by the dis- missal of James Sisson, who collected union dues in the mill contrary to the Calldren “Cry FOR FLETCHER'S CASTORIA Where to Buy in Westerly BOBERT DRYSDALE & CO. Those who advocate dis- armament usually refer to Germany as bearing _the an example of crushing load of militarism. Hence it is of interest to hear the reply of Ad- miral von Koester of the German navy In a recent speech he point out how trade follows the flag, how Germany had passed from a continental into a world power and how still further mi tary and naval equipments were neces. sary to keep up the standard of growth set in an Industrial and commercial way. The economic successes of the Ger- man empire in the last decade are something marvelous, according to the figures presented in thi \ddress. Ad- miral von Koester pointed out that the world trade had more than doubled in twenty years, that it had increased from §: the ten years since the new naval pro- sramme was fixe: ot th'll ” 000, 000 000 is of sea-carried commerce alone, which can only flour- ish if the burden of the armament on sea and land is honorably burne.
