Sgyiee Frinits saa’ Redting, Continue Investigations Closely following the death of Dan- iel Suilivan at White Rock Wednesday ening, comes the sudden deaths of ohn Fry at his home in Pearl street, Westerly, and of Rossario Patti at the boarding house of Frank Schillibia, 21 Downer street, Pawcatuck, which made the total number of sudden deaths in this section sixteen within ten days, up to noon of Thursday. John Ery had just entered his Téth year was a man of good character and habits, and the alleged “poisoned whiskey” had nothing to do with his death. He had been sick for nearly six months with kidney trouble, but was able to be out of doors daily and when he retired Wednesday night appeared to be in his customary health. So after midnight he became seriously iil, the disease having taken an acute turn. Mr, Fry gradually became weak- er and at 5.30 Thursday morning he died. Mr. Fry came to Westerly from Greenwich about twenty years ago his last employment was_with V P. Dixon as a hostler. He served in the Civil war as a privato in Company F. Fourteenth Rhode Island Heavy ar- tillery regiment, an organization com- posed of colored men. He was a mem- ber of Budlong post, G. A. R.,-of West- erly. He leaves a daughter, Mrs, Peter ‘Webster, with whom Qe resided in Pear] street, and a son. There was nothing of a suspicious nature in con- mection with his death. Four hours after the death of Mr. Fry came the sudden death of Rossario Patti, a shoemaker, with shop at 72 Liberty street. For several weeks Mr. Patti has complained of pains in the chest and severe headache, and each morning before going to work took a drink of whiskey, but could not be con- sidered a man who was a habitual drinker. His pains became so intense that he remained at home Tuesday and Wednesday, but did not call a physis cian. He became worse early Thurs- day morning and at 9 o'clock Dr. John L. May was summoned, and when he arrived Rossario Patti was dead. Dr. George D. Stanton, medical ex- aminer of the town of Stonington, was notified and with Dr. May made in- quiries as to the history of the case, but could learn’ nothing that would /in- dicate death by poison. save blindness that preceded death, which might have been caused by wood alcohol, or the natural consequence of an ending life of Bright's_disease. Coroner Brown was natified and ar— rived in Westerly at 12.45 from Nor- wich and consulted with Drs. Stanton and May and with Deputy Sheriff Wil- fiam H. Ca n William A. Wilcox’s office in Pawcatuck. The coroner or- dered the body removed to Gavitt's undertaking establishment, where post mortem examination was made by Dr. Rush W. E: nball of Norwich and Med- miner Stanton of Stonington, D Grant Savage of utopsv was thoroughly made and nothing was found to indicate the presence of poison of any nature or that Patti had died from anywnnatural causé. Mr. Patti came to Pawecatuck from Italy about two years ago and opened & shoe repairing shop and was consid- ered to be industrious and well be- hayed. He was of fine physique and of £00d appearance and had served in the Italian army. He was about 50 vears of age and leaves a _son, Angelo Patti, of Westerly, and Guissippe Patti of Wakefield. i While the Westerly authorities were making inquiry as to the probable cause of the Fry death, and autopsies | being held to determine se of the Sulliv: d Patti deaths, the pre- vailig m: v the sudden a. 2 street father of ker, died a icious circumstances. This brought | total number of sudden deaths up eventeen. McAvoy's death was similar to that of Daniel Sullivan, who died Monday night at White Rock. McAvoy was employed in the White Rock miils, but has not been at wi since terious death of hi bottle in the men Wednes: ompany with two other gfternoon. He wa ROBERT DRYSDALE & CO. Scanlon was summoned and when he arrived he foung Mr. McAvoy in a dying con- dition. After giving the dying man attention he notified Dr. J. H. Mor- gan, the medical examiner for West- erly. When Dr. Scanlon made a sec— ond call at 1.30 Mr. McAvoy was dead. It has been decided to hold an autopsy in _this case. . McAvoy served in the Civil war as a private in Company B, Ninth Rhode Island infantry, and was a member of Budlong post, G. R. He was 68 ars of age and the last of his fam- fly. By order of Attorney General Greenough a post mortem examination was_ made on the body of Daniel T. who died Wednesday night s circumstances. The made Thursday af- ternoon by Medical Examiner J. How- ard Morgan, assisted by Drs. May and Sca Tt was found that both lungs indicated symptoms of pneumonia and there were two eysts on the liver, but there was nothing to cause death from ordinary natural causes. The _veins contained bright red blood and the brain s filled with a watery sub- stance bordering on solidity, and the heart was a trifle enlarged, indicating the presence of a powerful stimulant. The stomach will be sent to Harvard college for examination by Professor Whitney, poison and analyst expert. The annual business meeting of di church w 1 !fi{m. owing 1o the that preceded. The coroner took the testimony of Bernard McCormick, brother-in-law of Edward Doherty, and whom, it is said, purchaseg the whiskey for a medicinai purpose, which the coroner declares- contained wood alcohol. ‘The coroner and Town Solicitor Agard of Westerly were in_consulta— tion concerning the deaths in Pawca- tuck due to alleged poisoned whiskey purchased in Westerly. Up to the present time there have been no ar- rests in connection with the suspicious deaths. They are lighted in a new way; there is no dnngerm pilot light and explosions are impossible. This improvement is patented and very important. The Damper is automatically opened by opening oven door to light the burners, which cannot be lighted wn#:l the door is opened. In these Gas Ovens there is an extra set of burners at the top for broiling; a great advantage over the ordinary gas ovep, insuring better broil- ing and great convenience. The Oven Bottoms and Racks are cast iron, and the outer walls are triple—an interlining of asbestos between two sheets of iron, which assists to retain the heat. The use of these Gas Ovens does not interfere in any way with the operation of the coal range—both can be used at the same time. Double Oven above or Single Oven at end of range. Circulars Free.
