A woman's back has many aches and pains. Most times ’tis the kedneys’ fault. Backache is really kidney ache; That’s why Doan’s Kidney Pills cure it. Many Norwich women know this. Read what one has to say about it: Mrs, Oscar Bjork, 159 Mt Pleasant Street, Norwich, Conn., say; I found splendid results from the use of Doan’s Kidney Pills and therefore do not hes- . s b 2 Parents to Give Children, Better Care. In the city court on Monday morn- ing Joseph Dombroski and Bennie Petrofski, both aged 7, were presented for setting fire to the paintshop of the New Haven road on Sunday. Police- man Irish had seen them running away from the vicinity of the build- ing and later they admitted that they had started the fire. They also told of starting a fire in Durkee lane. but said they became frightened and put it out. It is stated that they had ad- mitted they intended to burn a barn. They were little concerned about the court procedure and took little inter- est in it. After the facts had been given to the court, Judge Brown sen- tenced them to the state school for boys at Meriden until they are 21 years of age. The parents of the Petrofski lad came to see him on Monday, but not until evening did the father of the Dombroski boy visit him. They will be taken away today by Policeman Henderson. At the time he sentenced the boys, Judge Brown made the following state- ment: I feel it a duty this morning to em- phasize what I said in court a few mornings since in relation to parents and guardians allowing their young children to go alone to the cheap shows, We have here in court this morning two boys scarcely old enough to be loosed from their mothers’ apron strings, charged with, and undoubted- 1y guilty of, the crime of arsom, which if committed by a responsible person and proved, would commit them to state prison. What a serious crime! ‘When a crime is committed and the prosecutor is trying to fasten the crime upon the accused, he seeks the motive for the committal of the offence. Sometimes it is revenge, at other times it is for gain. So.it must be always that there is some motive for the act. These boys confess in this crime charged asgainst them, the firing of premises. What was their mo- What prompted their act? We say at once it can’t be with any desire for gain, nor can it be for revenge, for they are of so tender years and it is apparent at once that such cannot be the case. Something has prompted these year-old children to commit this aw- ful crime, What is it? Were they told to do this by their parents or any other person? No. They econfess to 1 end them. The formative mind of the young child is wonderfully impressive. Here we AT BROADWAY THEATER. Vaudeville and Motion Pictures. Broadway theater had a full house on Mond evening for the first of the week attractions and there is one of the finest bills ever presented for the enterfainment of the patrons. The broncho busting act with eight people provides the latest in the line of stunts and gives the audience a new thrill when the riding of the pony is at- tempted and accomplished. Some fine rope throwing and bucking is also giv- en, to the delight of the onlookers, while the quartette of cowboys pleases immensely in their several selections and are obliged to respond to the in- sistent encores. The andry brothers in the aerial acrobatic act have a new line of work which v present in a clever manner to the delight of all. They are most capable men and get a big hand. Hang- ing by the neck with the weight of his:| brother on his feet is one of the feats of the heavier brother, while the latter in his posings is_excellent. Si James and Dacre in their comedy sketch have some funny work as man ang wife, the former having stayed out too late, while Si Henks as the rube comedian hands out a guantity of jokes and songs which convulse the auditors. ' | to know that mamy bhave positive proof of this. It is sim- ply impossible that children of this age and up to 16 years or more should be uninfluenced by what they see and hear. These children were ,moved to- wards incendiarism by these pictures they have seen and the boy or girl might be moved by the pictures he sees to commit robbery or the wreck- ing of a train. Their thoughts cannot help frequently being turned to that which is lewd and dissolute by the improper ‘pictures too ‘often seen by them. The trouble is, that many times the pictures shown are highly improper for the immature mind of the child. No parent should allow the child to attend these shows wunless they ac company them, and then only in the daytime. Then they would be able to see whether the pictures shown are proper for the child. I feel sure that many a child in this city has been started on a course of.crime and ruin- ed by shows which have not been properly conducted. These precious boys and girls are worth saving; they are worth too much to be lost. We ought not to sit with our hands folded and allow criminals to be turned out on to society and do nothing to rem- edy it. Let me say to parents, that it is my belief that there is nothing in our city today that is doing so. much for the ruinatien of our youth as the condition that now exists here in this respéct. Do we need a curfew law? I say vyes, if it can’t be changed in any other way; but I believe there are other remedies. My remarks relate to improper shows, I suppose that good people will not condemn moving pic- tures which are proper to be shown, for they are pleasing and instructive, I am told. ‘Who is to blame for the ruination of these two boys and the destruction of this valuable property? Primarily the parents for permitting these boys attendance at improper shows; next, the exhibitors of such pictures who have lost all moral conception of right and wrong; finally, every good citizen of this community for tolerating such a cursed thing. Let us have a reform- ation and save our youth. These were brief remarks by several on the subject and Mr. Smith an- nounced that the next monthly meet- ing would be a school of practical pol- itics, with morning and afternoon ses- sions.
