Bennett May Have Con- tracted S:arlet Fever While Buying Raw Furs. Arthur Clarence Bennett has the scarlet fever. It is thought the young man caught the disease while in Wil- limantic or Norwich, buying raw furs, as he travels and has been to a num- ber of places lately. The house is under strict quarantine. There is a family of seven children on one side of them and a family of four children on_the other side. Wentworth Had Disastrous Fire—Prisoner Escaped from Jail, But Was Recaptured. Q. F. Genung returned home from her daughter’s, in Medford, Mass., on Thursday, the 10th, having been de- tined by a case of diphtheria in the family found just at the tlme of her ar- rival, and the board of health placed a quarantine upon the houae and its oc- cupants. On Tuesday late in the evening the {house o Joseph Wentworth, sitdated near the Pomfret line on Bush Hil was discovered by the neighbors to o on fire. Mr. Wentworth was sleeping | in the Touse soundly, and was only awakened when his ~near meighbor broke in the window near his bed. The horse and cows in the barn were re- leased from the barn just in time, as in a few moments the barn was a mass of flames. Mr. Wentworth saved oniy | a few articles of clothing, a writing | desk and his pocketbook with about $70 from under his pollow. The barn contained about thirty tons of fodder. The only building saved was the hen- house, the rest being entircly consume ed. There was an insurance of $1,200 upon_the property. The last of Janu- ary Mr. Wentworth buried his wife, and this second 108s js a terrible blow to him, as nearly all the savings of his life has gone up in smoke.
