Clesning, Pressing and Repuir! e s putring. es i While the bid of the trustees of the Hannah B, W. Brown estate of $20,000 to furnish a site for the proposed new postoffice building has been accepted, actual purchase has not been made. “The building project has progressed so far that the temants of the sec- ond story of the present postoffice building are seeking or have secured auarters elsewhere. The site accepted is in_part occupied by the present postoffice building, a_two-story_brick structure, and owned by the Brown estate According to the terms of the bid, this building must be removed from the premises thirty days after the land is transferred, the government pur- chasing the lahd, but not the building. The Brown estate is extensive and in- cludes among other properties, the plat from the Memorial building to the Mitchell and Hinckley building on High_street, upon which are located the Brown homestead and the post- office. On the opposite side of the street is the Brown business block and the big vapant lot backing upon the Paweatuck! river, between the Brown and Porter-Loveland buildings. The trustees will not raze the pres- ent ‘postoffice bullding_but propose to have it moved up to the vacant lot in High street and placed close to the Porter-Loveland building, the trus- tees being required to furnish quarters for the postoffice during the removal. After the building is placed the post- office will probably be located therein until the new potoffice building is ready for occupancy. Capt. Walter E. Harrington, who, cannection with his duties as com pany commander, served as range offi- cer at the state rifle range at Mum ford, will probably remain in the mil- itary service of Rhode Island. After a courtmartial had found him guilty ‘of certain charges, which resulted in rublic reprimand, the captain tender- | ed his resignation to Col. Charles E. Tillinghast three months ago. Effort was made by the colonel and adjutant general to have Captain Harrington withdraw his resignation, and it was therefore not accepted. Now the res- ignation has been returned to him and the incident is believed to be closed. The directors ‘of the Atlantic Sh ping company have decided to- build a big schooner to take the place of the Governor Ames, which was lost last December by striking on Wimble shoals, off Cape Hatteras, the cap- tain and all of the crew being drown- ed except one sailor. It is stated that the schooner will be built at Nat's Point shipvard, Stonington. and the work will begin early in May, and the designs are being prepared. The shipyard is just west of the Stonington station and close ta the railroad tracks, The schooner Fanny Prescott_and.
