Books as Christmas P There is no message of love, affec- tion, good will or friendship that can- not be oqpveyed in a book. Give your friend a book for Christmas. Cran- ston's bookstore on Main street is the oldest in this part of the state, having been established about seventy years. They have had long experience in sell~ ing books, and are showing a large and well selected assortment comprising all the newest and best of the season in standard and handsome illustrated gift books, the latest fiction, and a large and fine line of juvenile. Children’s toy books are also shown in great variety. Read their advertisement and call and make your selections while the stook is fresh and new. There is no better place to buy books. Cranstén’s prices will please you. THE AUDITORIUM. People in buying goods generally go to the place where they get the most and best for the least money, and that it is this way in the amusement world is evidenced by ever Increaging pat- ronage at the Auditorium. The bill for the present week, consisting of four first class vaudeville acts, two of the latest and best illustrated and classical songs, and from four to seven of the finest motion picture subjects, would be hard to beat, both for quality and quantity. The acts are Guy Bartlett & Co., .presenting A Welch Rarebit Dream, an act you will like, Madile. Lucille Omega, Queen of the Silver ‘Wire, a wonderfully clever equilibrist. ‘That Harmonizing Couple, Claude and Marion Cleveland, in a budget of songs and gossip, and Hearn and Rutter, two exceedingly clever boys who are some dancers. Lilian Morelle and her songs will no deubt add to her list of suc- cesses with Toodles, a catchy march song. A beautifully colored film, The Prodigal Son, will head the list of mov- ing pictures. - BREED THEATER, Fisherman’s B Scenic Picture The e, Beautiful tory. A quaint and beautiful picture story of the sea goes-on exhibition at the Breed theater with the matinee today, it béing entitled The Fisherman's Bride, with the exciting plot laid in Oregon, in thé little city of Astoria, noted-for its fisheries. There is the fascinating litfle fishermaiden, who is besieged by lovers, all of whom follow the sea for an occupation. She has a decided preference for one in particu- lar, but her stern father has chosen a future husband for her, and she nat- urally resents and elopes with the man of her choice, whereupon the rejected suitors decide upon some sort of re- venge. The young bridegroom is enticed to the wharves upon some pretense and while there is set upon by the fisher- men, who throw a coat over his head and put him aboard an ocean tug. The little bride discovers this fact and re- porting hurriedly to the custom officers they board a fast government boat and put in pursuit, capturing the stolen bridegroom some distance out at sea after a flerce struggle. This is a powerful story, well en- acted, with superb views of the ocean and.fhe quaint customs of the fisher folks. Miss Wolcott has two especially de- lightful numbers for this week, includ- ing a splendid colorature waltz song which she does with her usual artistic finish. The attraction at Town hall, Daniel- son, on Friday, Dec. 17, will-be The Man on the Box, a clean cut comedy, dramatized from -Harold McGrath's novel of the same name. The play is a wonderful success on tour, and is an entertainment of rare merit and jollity. The plot involves a practical joke, in which a lieutenant, Bob Worburton, of the regular army, lately resigned, masquerades as family coachman, and the exchange of identities provides an entanglément that is highly divert- ing and a mixture of characters that is very amusing. Withal that the play is styled a comedy, it has its serious moments also, and there is a thread of melo- drama and a pretty love story inter- mingled with- the laughable situations and amusing dlalogue, all of which make The Man on the Box a play that wilk grip the interest at the very start and hold it steadily until the last word is spoken. Wilmer Walter will be seen in the role of the gay, nmisquerading lieuten- | ant, supported by Miss Louise Lang- don and a strong cast.
