BROADWAY THEATER. “The Traveling Salesman.” Miss Eliza Mason, now appeafing in the parc of Mrs. Babbitt in .- James orbes’ sparkling comedy of “The Traveling Salesman,” which comes to the Broadway theater Tuesday, Octo- ber 19, owes her rillfant stage ‘career to a “dare” which resulted from one of her caustic criticlsms of a promi- nent part in a passing play while a dramatic critic on a leading Buffalo paper. Miss Mason was for many years a mewspaper writer connected with ihe Buffalo Courler. baving charge of the woman's page and fréquently furnigh- ing dramatic review: ‘The weak parts of a nmew production were mever glosscd over by the clever young writ- er and a particularly polgnant re- view in time brought forth an ener- getic protest. Miss Mason, with that assurance and - seli-possession . which has made her stage work so notable, insisted that she was rivht and even went So far as to maintiin that she conld herself act better the part which was in question. She was “daved” to try. it by the irate manager, who thought. thus to disconcert ,hie critic. Miss Mason. true to the character which she portrays in “The Traveling Salesman,” Showed her mettle forth- with. and undaunted by bluster, retort- ed thaf she was ready to take the part and that the manager ‘might send around the part the next -day In two daye she had learned the lines and was ready for her first appearanc befare the footlights at the end of the week. It is unnecessary for those acquaint- with Miss Mason's part record to y that she made good. She not on- Iy ‘made good, but she made a gigantic hit and a permanent offer was imme- diately forthcoming. ed BREED THEATER. President Taft at Chicago-New York National Game. All of the baseball enthusiasts of the ity are interested in the thoroughly up to date motion picture to be showi | at the Breed theater for the first nart of this week, entitled President Taft at the Chicago-New York National Ball Game. This picture is a wonder in the motion picture world, and while the president is shown piiching the firet ball, and in nearly every scene, he is not the whole picture. The game is shown in many scenes, cov- ering an entire reel, and the important points are shown in such a manner that the marveiofs continuity of them results in the whole game being de- picted without an interruption. The pitcher throws the ball and instantly the camera is_turned, and shows the catcher when he catches it, and all of the spectacular slides for bases. This is an additional reel, and_the balance of the programme is of the same length, making this week's bill the longest of the season. Another feature reel is on the programme, ehtitied The Crooked Patch, and is supplied to suit the demands of those desiring sensa- tional pictures] and the musical, por- tion will consist of the latest and best in the -high class and illustrated song line, Mr. Roust remaining another eek, The Auditorium. A very attractive bill has been pro- vided the patrons of the Auditori- um for the present week, headed by De Chaunt and his*educated dogs. Mr. DeChaunt has got together an act that has a distinct element of novelty, as he is himself a very clever equilibrist and acrobat, while the dogs are per- fectly trained, thus making two dis- tinet acts in one. Gracey and Barnett, no dowbt, will win over their andiences with their rollicking Irish farce, “Re- hearsal!” Joe Lanigon-will give his clever impersonation of a doleful dar- key who is down and out and looking for sympathy. This character as per- formed by Mr. Lannigan, is a scream. Miss Grace Edna of the team of Con- nors and Edna, is an exceptionally fine Jady baritone singer, while her part- ner, Mr. Connors, s a very clever ec- centric comedian and danger, making a yery classy act. The motion pictures, as usual, are of the best and include such features as The Female Spy, A Woman's Way, A Mooniight Dream, The Castle of Nesle, and others. Lillian Morelle will continue to de- light her hearers with a special pro- gramme of her own selection. includ- ing both illustrated and operatic songs. Olympic Theater. Saturduy afternoon and night /the audience at the Olympic was large and good humored and those attend- frig were repaid for their effort” in witnessing (ke splendid display of moving pictures put on the canvas for their entertainment and pleasure. The- pictures are clear and sharp. the machine is the best and does not flick- er and leave the audience blinded, making it the hest show in the city. It must be seen to appreciated: ‘A complete changes of pictures today My. Delaney has two new songs for taday: he ays they are the best vet Matinee, ladies and ren fe.
