After the party had toured from Providence through East Providence, Werren, Bristol, Portsmouth, New- pprt to Saunderstown, and dined at Varragansett Pier, the hour was 4.10 and Westerlv was twenty-five miles away, and the tra the Yoakums wanted to take towards New London was due to leave at 4.46. It was there- fore essentisl to make the run in th ty-six minutes, and the speed limit in Rhode Island is twenty-five miles an hour. The train arrived in Westerly on time and the Yoakums and répre- sentatives of the Rhode Island state road board had been on the station platform just six minutes waiting for the train, the party having ample time for handshaking and general expres- sions of appreciation and good will, The twenty-five miles was covered / the automobiles in just thirty min- utes. The speed law was violated, the viZitors caught the train, and the law, violators escaped arrest.
