Langworthy, Fifnn, Maxson, Culley and BurdicK. = The readiag of the minutes of the last reg- war and special meeting were omitted und it was voted to continue the heary ing on the grading of George streét un- til the adjourned session Tuesday morning at ® o'clock. Mrs. Frank L. Larkin, representing Phebe Greene Ward chapter, Daughters American Revolution, presented peti- tion for permission to place on the iron fence of the Pawcatuck river bridge at Broad street a bronze ‘tablet twenty- four by forty inches in size bearing the inscription that at or near this place was located the OM Fort. The peti- tion was granted. The fort referred to was located in Main stfeet, near the site of the Bliven fish market. Councilman Purdick suggested that action be taken in regard to the col- lection of Ticense fees from Bliven opera hovse. He said that Sheedy last season kad agreed to pay the stipulated fees zaonthly, and had paid for only one'month. “Now that the opéra: house has reopers2d something should be done owards collecting the legal license fees. It was voted to refer the matter to the police committee with power, of which committee Mr. Burdick is chair- man. i petition was received from tax- payers of Watch Hill asking that the town grade and curb Wauwinnett and Neowaa avenues, the property owners desiring to lay sidewalks when proper grade is established. No action was taken, but it was understood that the usual’ preliminaries that are necessary in such cases will be commenced with- out detay. Half an hour was spent in the ex- amination of plats of the Watch Hil | property, with special reference to the engroachment on the public highway by” William H. Doane of Cincinnati, a Jarge property owner at the hill. It was stated that over a year ago.Mr. Doane had agreed to remove the en- éroachment, which consists of fences and a stone wall, ang to hate the work completed Lefore the opening of the present season, but had done nothing along that line. The council voted to Instruct the ¢lerk to motify Mr. Doane to remove the obstructions on or before Sept. 15, or the fences and wall would ‘be.re- moved by the town at the expense of Mr. Doane. Other property owners have encroached on the highway, and they, too, will be required to remove all obstructions. The council adjourned until § o'clock Tuesday morning. Chief Bransfield has made an im- gortant arrest of a man wanted in rovidence for stabbing a fellow coun- tryman Saturday night of week before last in West Exchange street that city. The accused, Ange) errarro, age 20, readily acknowledged that he was the one who did the.cutting, but said he did it in self defense. The man stabbed is Gioviano Montavolso. The wounds consist of two knife stabs in the back, not of a serious nature, Ferraro states that he was keeping company with a sister of Giovano's and that there ‘was a row with the brother over that fact in the street in Provi- dence near where the girl lived, Glo- vano met him and declared that he was going to kill Angelo then and there .and put his hand in his hip pocket as if he was to carry his threat into execution. Angelo then. to protect himself, took his jackknife from his pocket, stabbed Gibyano twise and then ran away, com. ingito Westeriy.
