Yesterdays' hot wave in the city sent hundreds of people down the line to Lincoln park. The women and ehil- dren took the outing in the afternoon, and the business men, several score of them, joined their women folks and youngsters after supper for a cool out- ing of two or three hours on the park grounds and a lookin at the rustic the- ater, which this week is putting on an- other of its clean cut-and entertaining vaudeville shows. In compliance with the new state law, Dog Warden Thomas Kelley has fled a report with Town Clerk .Rob- ert Weber showing that from May 21 10 August 1 he has destroyed 123 dogs. 4nd that his charge in each case to the city.is $3, in accordance with the rate fixed by law. The report does not include the number of dogs placed in the pound in Drew place, as the law only requires a report on the number of unlicensed dogs killed by the war- den. The report gives a description of the dogs and the lodation where the animal was picked up.; In instances where the name of the owner is known that is also entered. The rate of $3 per dog is $2 less than the amount allowed the warden last year. Last year the dog catcher in Waterbury mede in the neighbornoos of $4,000 kiling dogs at $5 cach and the ' legislature seemed. to think that the possibility of a man getting rich in the dog-catching business was too great, so they voted to reduce the fee to $3.—Bridgeport Farmer. square, They were the theosophists, who had turned out for the first illu- mination of their high priestess, Mrs. Annie Besant, "A. Her pure white hair, cut like a man's, was rumpled up almost in a peak on her head; as if she had just taken off her mitre. Her face had the square, solid, vigorous cast of the real Briton, and her voice was as strong and, decided as many a good church- maii’s.
