Valuable Books for Children. | Among the many recent additions of books at the li are a series of ten volumes for reference use by children, - The work is Draper’s Self- Culture and includes in the ten vol- umes valuable and instructive collec- tions of facts on a great variety of subjects. The topics include: Music, art, travel, exploration, inventions, fal ry tales, myths, and reference to a score of other topics. Other addiitons include a remarkably excellent atlas, containing in compact and admirably arranged form many thousands of facts relative to the history, great events and great men of the United States since the beginning of its life; also sketches of the founders of its industrial supremacy, of its agricul- tural progress and the growth and ex- pansion of its religious life. A loose-leaf encyglopedia is also to be added to the library. This work will be kept constantly modernized by the insertion of at least 500 renewal pages each year, and if condiitons warrant it, by even more frequent r newals. BEING A TRAILER. Moosup Motorist Got a Tow That Meant Going Some! The owner of a disabled automobile does not always have such an experi- ence as the Moosup man who had his machine go back on him near Putnam one evening this week. While the owner of the disabled joy producer was thinking things about his car that refused to run, the big auto of George McLean of Chicago, who is spending the summer in Brooklyn, came alo Mr. Autolst with the dead car gladly accepted the offer to be towed into Danielson and a rope of liberal length was produced and a connection be- tween the two cars quickly made. Blacklisted Man—Two Fined. Another trio of men who had been ®=0 considerate as to get liquor for a blacklisted man, Edward Osier, were before Deputy judge L. H. Fuller in the city court Tuesday morning. Clif- ford Martin was fined. $10 and cost amounting to $19.49, and Joseph Pelo- quin was fined $10 and costs amount- ing to $18.69. SENATOR DEAN'S FUNERAL In His Native Town of Ashford on Monday—Funeral Services at Mal- den, Mass. The body of ex-Senator Charles L. Dean, formerly mayor of Malden, Mass., was brought to Westford in the town of Ashford, Monday after- noon, for burial. Senator Dean was a native of Wind- ham county and it his desire to be laid to rest in the town where he spent his boyhood. Rev. T. B. Brigss of Boston, who is spending the sum- mer in Union, officiated at the West- ford service. The funeral service was held Sun- day afternoon at the Centre Methodist church in Malden. Contractor James T. Levi was engaged to lodate the undesirable occupant and sistant, first flooding the cellar, which, howewer, was unsuccessful in’ reliev- ing the strain on the olfactory nerves of those in the neighborhood. Other methods for tion were used, but proved of no avail until the old-fash- ioned way of ripping off the boards out-of-the-way corners brought ‘the little animal to light resting peace- fully in the side of the house near an attic window. The removal of severai clap-boards and timbers was necessi- tated in order to get rid of the dead visitor. A Lobstsr Story. James Farrell of Byham Shore is telling a good story. Recently he caught a large lobster and, according to his usual custom, left it in a lob- ster-pot over night. The next morn- ing to his surprise \there were to all appearances two lobsters in the po* instead of one. Upon examination he found that the lobster had slipped out of its shell during the. night, which somewhat cleared up the mystery. It/ Too Tame for Teddy.
