Al Ousley, who was heard at the Roderick last night, received big ap- plause, being the feature of the per- formance. Mr. Ousley, being a late star of Hi Henry’s minstrels, sang by request Silver Threads Among the @eold. 'Mr. Willlam Deianey, who was heard in Set 'Em Up in the Other Al- Jey, also answered to' several recalls. It must not be thought that the for- actually Jeft was the result of own work. It was due to legacies fell to him fairly late in life. The biggest was from an uncle to whom Meredith's father was in debt when he died. As soon as he had scraped the money ther Meredith sent his un- cle a cl which was never present- ed, and later became the legacy. The fortunes le‘t by four of Mere- dith’ contemporaries in literature we! on Charles . Swinburne, £24,282; Robert Browning, £18.775; Lord Tenneyson, £57.20¢, Wiliiam Morris, £55,06! A New Kind of Pestal Card. The advertising manager of a big business house in this city has invent- ed a postcard which has been patented in this country -and all over Europe, and. will pmbbbly be widely used ttfi nary a round hole in the middle about the size of a «quarter and a collapsible fig- ure of rice paper- pasted -on the back. This figure may be any shape desired and may- be printed with the likeness of historic buildinge or other things it is desired to reproduce. A puff of the breath’ through the hole fills out the rice paper figure, which assumes the wanted shape, and stays that way until again folded. It is an interest- ing novelty, and particularly well adapted to bear. figures of buildings of historic or“other interest. The collap- sible card will also be made in the form of a bank, with a slot for coins. The inventor happened on this idea while bullding cardboard figures for his little daughter.—Philadelphia Rec- ord. HOME GARMENT MAKING. The Bulletin’s Pattern Service. What was pronounced to be one of the begst motion pictures seen here in a long time ‘was shown at the Breed the- ater last evening, under the title of Pighting Bob, and proved to be a pic- ture of great surprises, as scenes being laid in Mxico were very novel, and the clever traps lald by the wily Mexicans were almost successful, the jolly tars from the lieutenant’s cruiser, lying in the barbor, being on the spot, and the young lieutenant is allowed to depart with his bride after a strenuous strug- gle with her obstinate parent. Peraps the clearest picture seen here this season s entitled The Cricket on |. the Heanth, a beautiful photographic portrayal ‘'of Dickens’ famous story, other excellent ones being How Jones Paid His Debts, Panther Hunting on the Tslandl of Java, Mrs. Faust, an ab- surd reversal of the story of Faust, and Alpbonse Gets in Wrong. Much pleasure was given the audi- ence by Mr. William Scott, the popular tenor, who rendered in his usual fine manner “Evening Rest” (Rotoli), ne- oessitating an encore. Mr. AT H, Ouseley, who for several weasons was the first tenor of theVbig quartette traveling with Primrose’s Minstrels, 'sang for the patrons the old time favorite, “Silver Threads Among the Gold,” which proved very pleasing. LINCOLN PARK. Vaudeville at Rustic Theater.- 2780 PATTERN FOR REFOOTING STOCK- INGS. Paris Pattern No. 2780 — All Seams Allowed. \ This lpattern will be a joy to the eco- nomical mother who throws a stocking away because the foot and sole are be- yond darning. These feet may be cut from the legs of old stockings and will be found ufiecillly useful for lisle thread or silk, which wear out so uickly. They should be very carefully ?olned so that the seams will be as unnoticeable as possible. The pattern is in eleven sizes—6 to 11, stocking size. No quantities are iven for this-pattern, as the new sole s cut from the leg portion of an old ntocklng !he pattern itself being the required si: rice of pnttern, 10 cents. Order through The Bulletin Company, Pattern Dept., Norwich, Conn. CASTORIA The man or woman with a taste for vaudeville who isn’'t suited by the bill this week at Lincoln park is a hard person “ to - entertain. - There are five acts, and every one is worth seeing several: times. The roller skating sketch of Hawley and Bachen starts in with some foelish bumps and tum- bles by the -man on rollers, but before For Infants and Children. tht;x performance is over he dances “ te a hornpipe ‘and gets in some difficult ““ ave hm m :m}L p{:tty steps. Clara Mae Ham- 4 Y. “ A mel e soprano, is a comely young > woman, who sings sweetly and is a Bears the decided park favorite. Al H. Burton,| Signature of the. solemn-looking chap who togs out in a hlack Prince Albert rig, is a cap- {tal story. teller, with a few good local hits and several catghy songs. Duffy’s Finish, brings the loudest and longest lJaughs. Leonard and Whitney are es- pecially clever in their portrayal of thé woman suddenly come into money and the desire for high-toned society, and the hysband who doesn’t take Kmdly to the society end of it. The Vynos; ‘ the: bright musical pair who walk out into the barnyard and pro- ceed to get sweet music out of every- .thing -in sight, including fence, pump, ‘milk pail and brindle cow, furnish a unique. and delightful closing . act. ‘When they throw off their farm togs Just before the final curtain and make their bow in Highlanders’ costume, with Bagpipes in hand, the crowd votes the Vyno family all right for clothes &8 ‘well as music. NEW AEROPLANE Being_Built: in Washington by Iridob port Man. A new aeroplane of the mongplane type and ambodying several novel fea- tures ‘is being built in Washington by John H. Smidley of Bridgeport. The inventor intends to bid for the con- struction' of a machine if the signal corps proposes new specifications. The monoplane is thirty-two feet across from.tip to tip of its wings. It ‘has a maximum depth from front to rear of five feet and weighs only 250 pounds with an 18 horse power motor installed. One of its unique features is the position of the propeller, * which is placed in the €xact center of the ma- chine. A new method is used, con- sisting of two planes in front of the machine, working at different angles and_coutrolling both the lateral and vertical movements of the aeroplane. The lifting surfaces of the macpine are curved and the machine’ |is staunchly constructed-of bamboo and Members of-the Board of Education. b Rty lmp BB Norwich, Conn,, July 12, 1909. jy13a rubber I n, 3 ley has made e —— um.mum fi-aolm"w LOST AND FOUND.
