Unclaimed Deposits Bill. Senator Goodwin foot of the calendar the bill concern- ing the escheating of bank deposits to the state that have been unclaimed for thirty years, Senatdr Goodwin ex- piained the bill, on which the com- n.ittee ¢n banks had reported unfav- orably. He said that the amount of unclaimed deposits in savings banks is cbout $125,000 and it is estimated that «t the end of thirty years it will be about $90,0000. The bill would,cause a loss to poor, ignorant depositors: The savings banks are all the time making cforts to discover persons entitled to unclaimed deposits. The bill proposed ‘that the state should pay snly 3 per cent: on deposits, while the savings ha]n)u of the state paid 4 per cent. as a rule. Senator Searls offered an amend- ment that the state be required to fey a rate of interest at 4 per cent. The senator offered another amend- ment for the publication in six -daily newspapers of the state of the names of the depositors and the amount of the deposits. Mr. Chandler said that the house would be remembered in Connecticut, rot by the date on which it adjourned, rut by what the house did. (Applause.)
