The re- sult left the two teams tied for the league ' leadership. It all came about by two_close ds cisions by Umpire Rose in Westerly half of the first inning. _Bulkeley's three' batters, Benevenuit, Rogers and Bacon, had ail gone down by the strike out_route, in which Pitcher Burrows made the great record of a total of 20 for the game. New York, June 2.—A check came to sthe advancing tendency of prices today, though the action of the market was still mixed. Here and there prices continued tc rise, but in other quarters there was a sharp backset. Reading especinlly was under quite severe pres- sure and the appearance of some im- portant liquidation in that stock was of notable sympathetic effect on the whole list ~Another center of strong sentimental ~ influence was United Btates Steel, in which the recent per- sistent and prolonged advance gave way to a reaction Of e point. Its up- ward rush to 67 1-4 in the final hour had a strong restorative influence on the whole list. The volatie extreme of the later stages of its rise had caused fears of & probable culmination. Forelgn securities markets seemed to wake up today, for the first time, to the importance of the listing of the United States Steel shares on the Paris bourse &nd this topic was the sensa- tion of the Paris, Berlin, and, in some degree, the London markets. The un- 1ain tone of the market was aggra- vated by the heavy tone developed in the bond market and the fear thus en- gendered that the market was becor- ing surfeited with new issu The action of the Atchison issues in fa of the announcement of the new Atch- ison convertble bond Jssue was regard- ed as rather suggestive. Tie stock and the older convertible issues ran off, though the subscription privilege at’104 for the mew bonds represent 1aluable rights for the stock, based on the, ruling price for the elder convet- ible fssues. For some time past the securing of new capitél on advantage- ous terms has been taken as a reason for advancing the price of the stock affected. It was feared that the Atchi- son response might mark the waning of this influence. A gnod deal of at- tention was paid to crop news and es- timates of privats experts coming to hand were taken ag foreshadowing a Foor showing in the government report of condition looked for next week. The weekly bulletin of the weather bureau was not calculated to allay this appre- hension, indicating a persistence of ome of the unfavorable climatic con- itions. Further reduction in freight 1 : import traffic by the trunk lrcads was disliked, as threat- a spread of this dispute into departments of traffic. The imarking up of the price of copper did ot grevent the copper industrials from figuring conspicuonsly in the early re- actionary movement of prices. The engagement of a million dollars in gold for export to France was mot much heeded, the plethorio condition of -the local money market being as much feared as it is approved, Bonds were heavy.
