NEW wmfl COUNTY. LEBANON. Congregational Society. Formally Wel- comes Pastor-Elect—Town Has New Lodge of Pythians—Kenneth Peck- ham in Hospital, On_Thursday evening of last week the First Congregational church gave the pastor, Rev. Bugene B. Smith, a reception in the church parlors. Cor- dial words of welcome on behaif of the church were expressed by Rev. L. E. Livermore, and a very appropriate re- sponse was made by Mr. Smith. These addresses were preceded by_instrumen- tal music by Miss Geneva Smith. The pastor-elect will settle here about the first of June, near which time he will be ordained ‘and installed. Ie js ex- pected again tomorrow and will con- tnue to occupy the pulpit as often as he can while in the seminary. Easter Observance. Last Sunday the First Congrega- tional church was prettily decorated for Easter service and the sermon by the pastor and music by the choir were all in harmony with the day. In the evening the services wero carried on by the Sunday school under the direc- tion of Superintendent C. A. Perkins ana the chorister, Miss Fattie Robin- son. These included responeive read- ings, recitations, singing, concert ex- ercises and an address by the pastor. On Trip to Washington. A party of four ladies has been vis- iting Washington, D. C., this week, , K Noyes and daughter Mabel and Mrs. Mercy Gillette and her niece, Miss Ella Tucker. Mrs. W. L. L. Spencer went to Springfleld, Mass., last Tuesday in re- sponse to a telegram announcing the serious illness of her daughter, Mr Norman Pultz. Miss Clara Abell of Union City has been spending a few days with her parents, Mr, and Mrs, C. J. Abell Mr. Morris, a trother of Mrs. Totten and Mr, Toften, & nephew, are n with the family on the William Gay property. K. of P. Lodge Organized. A local organization of the Knights of Pythias has recently been effected in this place and holds regular meet- ings in Grange hall the first and third Tuesday evenings in each month. Clifton Sweet of New Britain spent two or three days with his mother and other friends last week Clement Fowler, who has been in a commercial college in New York, came home for Easter. He has gone back to finish his course and wiil soon be home for the summer. First Selectman Noyes has com- menced work on the roads in jthis vi- cinity. This is several weeks ecarlier than such work has been done for many years past, another indication of an unusually early spring. Noted About Town. (From_Another Correspondent.) An_enjoyable Easter service entitled The Triumph was given by the mem- bers of the choir and Sunday school at the Methodist Episcopal church Sun- day evening. The audience room was decorated with boughs of pine and pussy willow and potted plants and flowers, There was a good attendance &t _the service. Plerce of the steamer Pequonnock spent Sunday with hig family at Allyns Point, Missionary Meeting at Mrs. Brown’s Cottage, Mrs. Franklin H. Brown of Norwich opened her summer home for the day Tuesday to entertain the members of the local auxillary of the Woman's Home Missionary soclety at their monthly lterary and business meet- ing. The session opened with devotion- al exercises and an introductory talk by the president, Mrs. Thomas Lath- am, This was followed by a poem Brotherhood, by Miss Kate B. Colver, and re sive readings on Forest and Mines by the members. The Mining Regions was the tople conmsidered by Mrs. Latham and the New Migration, the one assigned Miss Sarah Latimer. Readings were given by Mrs. John Thompson and Misg * Laura Perkins.
