Edltor Nonpartisan Leader: I have been a member of the Non- partisan league Iess than a year. Be- fore I became a member of the League I knew there was something wrong with economic conditions, but I did not know what it was nor how to find out. I had aiways read the kept press papers although I knew they were in- veterate liars and that I could mot be- lieve anything they said, but I did not know where to find other papers upon | which I could: depend., A friend sent me a copy of the Leader, which I read from- cover to cover. I then knew I had struck something worth while. After inves- tigating the League a little I made up my mind that if ever 4 got a chance, I would join. Happily, J. L. Freeman attended a meeting of the Grange to ‘which I belong and we invited him to speak on the League. The result of this was that the whole Grange went down into their jeans and handed him their little old sixteens. For this T have every reason to be proud. I have gotten in touch with the best literature on economic condi- tions and am circulating it as much as possible. I own several copies of “The New Freedom” and “The High Cost of Living,” which are being read by many, and I have sold over 20 cop- ‘ies to citizens who did‘not know where- to get them. I have already gotten my money’s worth many times over. I have cut out all the reactionary stuff and have substituted such papers as the -Seattle Union Record, the Farmers’ Open Forum, the Agricul- tural Grange News, the Public, and others as good. It is to be hoped that Washington will have its state paper before long. The movement brmgmg farmers and city workers together is just the thing. We can’t help winning if we all stick together, though we are ham- pered by the many so-called patriotic organizations which have been waving the flag for political camouflage. What we need is more education, more reliable papers;, . more organizing, more true patnotlsm, and less flag waving. I especially like Mr. Townley’s stand in regard to the referendum vote. May Washington Soon follow in the footsteps of North Dakota. EMIL VENTZKE. READY FOR' THE LEAGUE Uoll Heights, Mont. Edltor Nonpartisan Leader: I am working for the widow of a member of the League, Mrs, 1. E. Davidson of this postoffice address. He died on December 17, 1918; and the League certainly lost a - good friend in him. I found a lot of old Leaders when I _took charge of the farm and have been getting his Leader-each week since and- reading it too. T like the clear- cut way you have of going after Big Biz, the special mterests and the kept press. Just as soon as a League meeting is held in this neighborhood, I shall dig up my $16 and be one of you. I wish I could have voted for Mr. Town- ley. CHARLES MORSANT. GOOD NEWS FROM CANADA Every labor candidate put forward in the recent Winnipeg city elections was elected by a substantial majority. The voters also repealed the statute setting & property qualification for municipal offices. © Similar labor wvie- tories were recorded in other parts of the province of Manitoba. The results give -a great impetus to the: farmer- 1abor pohtlcal alliance there.
