Editor Nonpartisan Leader: I am sending you a letter written to me by a man who signs his name as C. J. Wood. He says he belongs to the Equity and his address is given as Carter, Mont. I would be glad if some League member living near Car- - ter would tell me if there is a man by this name in that locality and if he’ belongs to the Equity. You will notice that the letterhead is torn off the paper, but his envelope shows the Park hotel of Great Falls. I don’t think “Mr, Wood” works as hard as I do, for he seems to have plenty of time for reading and advis- ing others. A. B. DUFFNER. The letter Mr. Duffner incloses is obviously written by one of the tin- horn drummers who spend the time between trains in writing to farmers whose names appear in the Nonparti- This particular boob tore the top-off the hotel stationery to bluff Mr. Duffner and then used the hotel envelope, which gave the trick away, to any one except a blind man. There ‘is another funny thing about this letter, too. J. G. Kane of Russell, N. D., has sent in to the Leader a let- ter he received written in exactly the same hand from a hotel in Spanish, N. D. On this occasion the writer is “J. H. Smith,” and the letter is mailed from Minot, N. D. Evidently if Mr. Duffner ever finds “C. J. Wood” he willfind him warming his toes in some hotel parlor and settling world prob-~ lems with the proprietor, who has to listen, on the special privilege plan. Again, if Mnr. I,})ufl’ner were to hang around the old gang headquarters long enough he would see his drummer correspondent coming in for the latest line of anti-League lying a~d he would recognize him by the glad-hand recep- tion and the gab. - FARMER HEARS MAXWELL Milbank, S. D. Editor Nonpartisan Leader: We'have just had the honor of hear- ing some very interesting ~speakers: M. P. Bates, candidate for governor; A. C. Townley, president of the Non- partisan league (two very highly re- spected men and two men whom I think are strictly honest), and we have also had the opportunity of hearing “Rev.” Maxwell, our great farmers’ friend. The latter certainly gave us League members some very important news. He said there was not a cent left in the League treasury and that the manager of the League had made it possible for the farmiers to take out life memberships at only $100. When my membership expires I shall join for life. You know it takes money to -do business-now-on account of-the war. . “Rev.” Maxwell has nothing against the farmers’ platform and he gave us full right to organize. Townley, and, after all, that ‘isn’t so There were certain classes: of people who: didn’t like Jesus either. . “Rev.” Maxwell will vote the Non- partisan league ticket this fall and I “think the business men of the county will do the same, e ‘ P. Editor Nonpartisan Leader: I have just written the editor of the Reporter and Farmer of Webster, S. D., to stop sending his paper to me. The sheet is-an insult to the intelli- gence of farmers. I am now living in Cass county, Neb., and I hope the League will soon send an organizer here. 3 W. F. NOLTE. That the editor of the farmer-hating paper didn’t find a great deal of satis- faction in the piece of mind M. Nolte gave him, may be judged from the letter: : Editor Reporter and Farmer: Dur- ing the past few-weeks my attenticn, rather my curiosity, has been drawn to an invidious sheet called the Beporter and Farmer which appeared In my mail. From what I can gather from your rabid and desultory criticisms and re- marks regarding the farmers’ Non- partisan league, I wondered whether you were not an expert in camouflage. I would suggest, to be more honest, that you rechristen the sheet and call it Reporting the Farmer, or something similar, that would. show its object. Have you offered your columns for a fair presentation to your readers of both sides of the case? While you admit the necessity of farmer organ- ization, neither you nor your kind have ever offered to them a sound solution or a system that will promise the farmer lasting results or that is superior to or even as good as the Nonpartisan league. However, such papers as yours are wonderful vote-getters for the Non- partisan league. . They make the farmers see the necessity for a real ‘THE FIRST ROUND Comforting relief from pain makes Sloan’s the World’s Liniment This famous reliever of rheumatic aches, soreness, stiffness, painful sprains, neuralgic pains, and most other external twinges that humanity suffers from, enjoys its great sales because it practically never fails to bring speedy, comforting relief.
