North Dakota has leaped into the national limelight as the bold- est innovator of the whole 48 states. Here are a few things North ‘Dakota agriculturists are committed to: State owned terminal elevators, flour mills, packing plants, storage plants and-® warehouses; the inauguration of the single tax, which involves the ex- emption of farm improvements from taxation; state hail insurance; a rural credit bank operated by the state at cost; the abolition of political parties. This program and the men back of it represent the Farmers’ Nonpartisan League, a new force in North Dakota affairs, which already numbers 60,000 men and there seems to be no legiti- mate reason, for criticism. If a.major- ity of North Dakota citizens, being farmers, choose to run the state pri- marily in their own interests,. that’s North Dakota’s business. Why, any- way, shouldn’t a farming state be run for farmers just as an industrial state is run to suit its industrial population? A PEOPLE'S PAPER (Editorial by Carrington (N. D.) Record.) The farmers and producers of North Dakota now have in the Fargo Courier- News a newspaper that stands for their interests and a newspaper that can be depended on to give the news as it happens and not colored to suit the wishes of entrenched privilege. The farmers should support the paper that stands for their interests, and every farmer in the state who can take a-daily paper should see that the Courier-News is that daily. It is by ,all_odds the best edited and greatest daily in every respect that the state— ever had. It has ample finances to carry on a great paper and it has the money to hire and pay for the men who know how to build a newspaper. Typographically, editorially and in its news service it has been wonder- fully improved since taken over by the present management, It' is working for the producers and it is up to the producers to boost the paper that works for them. .
