I assure you that I am glad to be- come a member in this farmers’ - organization, and I have boosted for the League all winter. The farmers got to organize and stick together if we are going to get what belongs to us.—C. E. BERQUIST. FOR GOOD OF ALL Cast No More Votes for Privilege, Advises Beagle Editor Nonpartisan Leader: I like your paper in every respect, as you are surely enlightening the voters of the state of North Dakota for the right course to pursue at the spring and fall elections. As for a high rate of interest and usury that has been practiced by the moneyed element it has existed long enough. Now let us voters, regardless of party affiliations, cast our votes so that when counted they will count for the good of all - and not for a few and help to right the wrongs that have been done for the benefit of a few.—G. M. BEAGLE. LONESOME SMITH Soon Will be Talking to Himself for Lack of Company Editor Nonpartisan Leader: There are at least 15 in our village who will vote for our candidates and who are boosting the League. Froggy Smith is hurting himself so much. by trying to roast the League officers that he will be taking a walk down the road one of these days talking to himself, as he will have no one.else to talk to, Not one farmer in twenty pays heed . to him any more in this county. How can any person, especially a farmer - with common horse sense, pay heed to such rot as Smith and his cooperative demagogues are circulating around the state -against our League officers. And the $6 and $9 campaign funds seem to be their main trouble. Won- der if their own well-spent money bothers them so much. Let ’em knock as we are up the ladder and out of their reach. We should worry.— OSCAR RYLAND. P. S.—Sending under separate cover some of Smith’s and other gang paper writers. Some fine dope, and 10 to one well paid for by McKenzie grist. FOR STATE RAILROADS Huso Believes That is Remedy for Poor Service Editor Nonpartisan Leader: As there have been quite a few writing in the Leader, glvmg their ideas of what we need in form of laws for North Dakota, I will give one idea which I think would be one of the greatest and best things we could do for the people of the state, viz—for the state to build its own railroads. We will never get out of the grip of the Railroad trust until we do. There . are many parts in North Dakota where it has been settled for 30 to 35 years and the farmers have to haul 15 to 20 miles to market. A man’s life time is too short to wait for the rail- road companies to put lines through. The less they build the more money they make and they have the hauling ay. With the immense lignite coa fields of North Dakota we can produce electric power cheaper than any part in the world. ~I dare say we could have an electric railway in every other township line in, North Dakota and still carry freight cheaper than the railroad companies now do. Now let us talk this oyer, give your ideas in the Leader and let us see‘if we can’t induce the people of North - Dakota to build their own railroads for the benefit of the people and not: let J. J. Hill with a few others bleed us-for million after million while the accommodation that they give is get- ting worse every year.—A. J. HUSO, DAILY PAPER NEEDED: Editor Nonpartisan Leader: Could not you get out a small | daily paper soon to counteract the daily ~ influence = created by the Gang papers. I am writing a piece for .the Corrupt News. If. they won’t publish it would ‘like to have it appear in the Leader. E. E. PINDALL: - o O ST S ‘SUNDBY. NON-MEMBERS of your labor. vote for his own interests. the League paper regularly. ALREADY. —J. M. WEIMER. FOR “ALL THE PEOPLE” If. Others Had Thought of That, League Wouldn’t be Needed s Editor Nonpartisan Leader: 1 was a delegate to the district convention held at Bowman and it was the best meeting I ever attended and I am well assured that all the delegates went home satisfied. :One of the lawyers here said that the farmers representatives ought to legislate for all the people. That’s a good idea all right, but have they ever thought of such a thing before, as legislating for all the people?— J. J. MUSIL. I CAN'T FOOL FARMER Newspaper Mud Mill. Has no Effect in This Vicinity Editor Nonpartisan Leader: Well, the Courier-News is . the laughmg stock in this community at the present SIGNS OF MOST OF the farmers are in. favor of the Nonpartisan League. I do not know of any that is workmg for any other candidate—P. R. WADE. - MORE FARMERS could have been secured as members last fall; had the organizer called on them. There is - no doubt but that the majority will “vote with us.—E. F. VONESCHEN. IF CRAFTY comes up. here or sends a sub, he will find out they are all Républicans except eight and will all vote for. Frazier and the rest of the state officers indorsed by -us. I do mot believe there is a precinet in the state that is in better shape to make the fight than this.one.—P. A. RIGGLE. I DO NOT: know of any in our pre- cinct ‘who' will not vote for Frazier, unless ‘it “should betone or two. But in‘the: town of “Mohall there were some that would/not sign the petitions . for Frazier and: some: of the other League:"_candidates,’ ‘amongst them. being the banker, ~But.we are going - to get a number of: voters from the . city Just the same.-—GILBE RT 'AS SOLID AS ooooooooooopoooooooo” There are quite a lot of League men around here and we are all working as hard as we can to get more farmer neigh- bors to join. THE NON-MEMBERS AROUND HERE WILL NEARLY ALL VOTE FOR THE LEAGUE CANDIDATES. THEY HAVE TOLD US SO -WITHOUT HESITATION. I have lived-and farmed in North Dakota for 27 years and I have subscribed for and read quite a few different papers. They all pretended to. be fighting for the farmers’ interests, but the Nonpartisan Leader is the first paper I ever read that really was for the farmers’ interests. If there is any farmer in North Dakota who:will not vote for the League’s candidates he should quit farming and let some one else farm in his place:who has horse sense enough to I joined the farmers’ orgamzatlon last August and I get I think it is fine. I paid $6 to- ward the paper and campaign fund and I THINK I HAVE GOT $100 WORTH OF SATISFACTION AND KNOWLEDGE The cartoons of the Leader are great, and especially the picture of Mr. I. M. Guilty. The only fault with that picture is you might have added two feet of rattlesnake to it, then it would have been a-complete likeness. I think you will find when election day comes that your work has not been in vain. : -,—JOHN LINK. . e ........0.0........C............Q....’.. .‘.. Edltor Nonpartisan Leader: Everyone is a booster for ‘the League. This township is solid for the farmers’ eandl- dates. Even a big business submarine can’t do any harm i in : this neck of the woods. I know by. what I read in these special mouthpieces such as the Courier- News, Grand Forks Herald and the Normanden that the men at the head of our organization have a lot of responsibility and abuse to bear. - However, we sincerely hope that they will be smart enough and strong enough to carry the fight to a suc- cessful finish. . M HELLESVIG FROM NON-MEMBER He WI“ Vote for Every Man on the League Ticket Editor Nonpartisan Leader: I am a subscriber “to the Fargo Daily Courier-News ‘and I see that he is pnntmg many untruthful statements in regard to the farmer’s League. I am not a member of the League but 1 will vote for every man that is nom- inated on the farmers’ ticket. Now VICTORY THIS TOWNSHIP is in good stand- ing and I am sure all will vote for ‘our men this fall. Also think if a good man came around, I would go ont with him.. KELLY SR. ! WORKS BOTH WAYS - - The Normanden of Grand Forks and George Judas Smith of Plaza rap us but in general get two raps back.—OSCAR RYLAND. r— 0 OPPOSED TO LIQUOR Alcohol Interests Don’t Want Farm« - ers to Rule, Says Bolstad Editor - Nonpartisan Leader: League has been accused of bemfi composed of the saloon element, an much effort has been put forth by some one to scare the farmers of this community. Maybe - the saloon ele- ment feels beaten when the farmers are organized, for they kmow that _the farmers as a whole are opposing the liquor traffic. - Let this be known, that the saloons will not gain a foot- hold as.long as.the farmers will have - a word to say. We do not expect to have everything to say, but demand a fair and square deal. Too long the corrupt politicians had full sway.' Now the farmers are orgamzmg and a worse howl than the politicians are _emitting has never been heard. The hopes of getting the saloons into this state are very slim. We hear the howl, that-is all. May the temperance people never slumbet,» for King Alcohol has great courage,™ but what is that when the people say “No.”—J. C BOLSTAD. TO SCANDINAVIANS Swanstrom Doesn’t Believe in chta- tion by Newcomers Edltot Nonpartisan Leader: - Allow me 2 little space in our official organ in regard to some of the attacks made by Normanden in Grand Forks and its staff, Mr, Thorson, Siljan and Rodvick. You Scandinavians of the League, it’s enough for you to have green newcomers come here to dictate to us farmers just as if we did not know what is good for us. This Mr. Rod- vick, a tool for big business, will first have to become a United States citi- zen before he can open his face to me, for one. I feel quite sure that most of you pioneers do not take much stock in his babblings nor any of the rest of the Normanden staff. You can safe- ly bet the whole rag is sold to the Hanna-McKenzie -gang. Any man that will try to disrupt our organiza- tion is truly a coward. The idea of bringing up religion and saloon ques- tions as a tool to knock the League. Wouldn’t that frost you? I for one do not care a rap what our leaders are as long as they are on the square and have a 'conscience, which they ‘have proven, and leaders we must have. Without leaders and officers the army " will - scatter. I believe the leaders - great recognition to - are dese ve been able to form such a great organization and it is the only way te g farmers out of the clutches of 1g Biz, and Big Biz knows it. ' They y the League is O. K. but they want to scalp the officers. They said the same thmg about Equity. All they were after was Loftus, which goes to prove we must have leaders to hang together or we will hang separately. As T understand it, this League ose of the office seeking the man an not for the politician "seeking the office.
