Craven, Eugineer of the Croton Aquoduct Depart- ment, of this date, cannot be excelled. In my letter of the 16th inst, among other things, T arraigned the Croton Aqueduct Department for advertising for work that could not be legally pesformed, for proposing the letting of excessive jobs far beyond the facilities of performance, and other grave abuscs 1 stated, in regard to the Belgiou pavemrent, that the Croton Board had already let, during the yoar, 46 jobs of the same description, and fovolving over 300,000 yards. at n cost of over $400,000.
