About nine o'clock, on Wednesday evening, a hag- gard woman, dressed in rags and covered with filth, tottered into the Mercer street station house and begged for a night’s lodging. She was shown into the apartmenit reserved for such homeless waifs and sank down on the floor in seeming exhaustion. Yesterday morning, when they came to rouse her, she asked to be left unmolested, as she was sick and in great tribulation. While the doorman was hesi- tating about what action be should take, Officer Hemuel Seamen stopped before the wretched looking creature, and in the wan face, with all the signs of dis- sipation, aud under the rags and tatters that covered her, he recognized a woman who, ten years ago, figured in one of the most sensational tragedies of the day. She was Fannie Wright, then a notorious wo- man, who on the 19th of October, 1867, stabbed and instantly killed Officer Rohert McChesney at the cor- ner of Canal and Mercer streets.
