REGULAR MONTHLY MEETING OF THE NEW YORK ASBOOIATION FOR THE PROTECTION OF GAME. ‘The regular monthly meeting of the New York As- sociation for the Protection of Game was held last evening st the residence of Mr, Benjamin L. Luding- ton, No. 2% East Sixty-ninth street. There wasalarge attendance of members present, and Mr. Ludington had for his guests Mr. F. D. Tappan, president of the Gallatin Bank, and Mr, John T. Martin, of Brooklyn. Mr. Robert B. Roosevelt occupied the chair. Mr. Whitehead stated that the new law, a4 drafted, consisted of thirty-four sections, the most important amendment being the fixing of the open season to begin on October 15 for grouse, quail, woodcock, snipe, hares, rabbits, squirrels, &c. ‘There was some little discussion on this point, which developed the fact that there was by no moans @ large majority in favor of fixing the ¢ date eo late, Another section exempts woodcock during July. The next important point was in regard to paving possession game alter the close of the sea- date fixed was the ist of Fobrusry, which allows one month to dispose of the stock on hand. English snipe were also added to the list of birds en- titled to protection, anda general penalty of $25 for cach oifence was fixed, instead of zs penalty at the "end of each rection. A number of amendnients were suggested by o cocaine appointed to confer with a like ce committee of the Fish Cultural Association, and were adop' the effect that no lobster less a They wore to than ten and a half inches in length, no shad less than one pound, or jue OF weak fish less than one-half pound shall for sale, under leone pepe hng of a og was algo an amendment in' who, without intent to evade or ‘act the te the law, bees innocently receive consignments of fish out of season. This waa the case once with Mr. Eugene ea, who once received # consignment of Canada tro without advices from the coms yr, the pensiioes tor which, had he been prosecuted, would have been 000. ‘The amendment was amended #o that rx so cirenmstanced will be relieved Mot tho penalty by sending the ah, back from whence they came a6 soon as th received. The law, as framed however, is #0 Seringent that it is quifstioned by many if it can ever pass the Legislature. Mr. Whitehead reported that three cases of violation of. the gamo law hed bean prosecuted on bohelf of the association. He also ntated doalora haying # large stock of on hand on March 1 either stored it it in cellars or disposed of it to German steamers, but it was difficult to get evidence enongh to convict.
