It is ascertained that negotiations haye been in progress for some time past between the three bank note companies doing business in this city—the American, National and Continental—for a consolida- tion of the corporations and the organization of one joint stock company. All the planus have not yet been fully matured, but a basis of ay been arrived at by the trustees and direc three companies for the consolidation, and meetings of the stockholders of the companies have been called to be held on January 31, 1879. It is said that a mae jority of the stockholders are in favor of the con- solidation, and that only the necessary legal forms will haye to be gone through with to complete the work. The name of the new com- pany will be » Bank Note Company, and the officers wi epresentative men from the three existing companies. The amount of capital stock of the new company has not been decided upon, but it will be large. The capital of the American Bank Note Company was $1,000,000, The nominal capital of the National is $60,000, but is generally considered $750,000, and the capital of the Continental is also nominally $60,000, Nearly one thousand per- sons are employed by the three companies at and it is thought a majority of them will be d under the new organization, as there is a peonnacd: for sufficient business to continue them. ‘The National Bank Note Campany has a large print- ing establishment at No. 53 Broadway, the offices being at No, 1 Wall street. It was incorporated in No- vember, 1859, the officers at prescut being—President, : Viee President, J. Macdonongh hn E. Currier, is at No, 142 The officers are—President, Albert G, Secretary, ‘If. 1. Ssrere. ilies of the American Bank Note Compan; it was stated yesterday that the contemplated pectd dation was for the best interests of all concerned; the volume of business had been greatly reduced, and the stockholders, generally, believed they could havo better returns by unitin han if the business was continued separately. ‘Lhe trustees of the three com- panies had agreed upon a plan for consolidation, which would be submitted to the stockholders on the same day for their action, and if they approved the agreement the necessary papers would be filed with the Count Clerk and Secretary of State, and the new company would be at once organized, BLED TO DEATH. THE CURIOUS ACCIDENT BY WHICH MRS, AMANDA TAYLOR LOST HER LIFE. The cause of the death of Amanda B. Taylor was yesterday made the subject of a Coroner’s investiga- tion. The deceased was the wife of Noah D. Taylor, formerly of Taylor’s Hotel, in Jersey City, and for some years had been suffering from various com- plaints which defied the skill of able medical practi- tioners. The use of medicines which had been pre- scribed was said to be the cause of frequent fainting fits to which she was subject, and of late her friends had been fearful lest she should suffer some severe injury in those moments of sudden prostration. On Saturday last sho went out with Mrs. Adelia Berry, who keeps the boarding house at No. 37 West Twenty-first street, at which she resided, On her way down town she fainted and had to be conveyed home in a carriage. She fainted again on the stair- way and was placed upon a lounge in the back par- Jor, inastate of utter prostration. While she was lying there her nephew, Charles W. Buddington, en- tered the room and waited until consciousness re- turned. Then sho raised herselt up and requested him to get some jewels which she had tied in a hand- kerchief and put them away. He went to do so, but failed to find them. A FATAL ACCIDENT. On this Mrs. Taylor rose to her fect with the inten- tion of looking for them herself. The movement was a fatal one. The folds of her dress gathered about her feet tripped her and she wes precipitated against a aisse partition alongside the lounge. There ‘was a crash of the brittle material, a rent in it where her head crushed through, and then as she uttered a smothered cry her nephew was horrified to sco the blood mshing from her throat. He at once hurried down stairs and startled Dr. Little, an inmate of the house, by the announce- ment that his aunt was dying. The physician has- tened to the room and found Mrs. Taylor lying on the floor with a deep, gaping wound in her neck, from which the blood’ was fairly pouring. In her fall all against the glass the sharp edge of the broken glass had severed the left carotid artery, and the tinhappy lady was rapidly bleeding to death. Drs, Taylor and Mason were summoned, but they were unable to arrest the hemorrhage, and in a few min- utes Mrs. Taylor breathed her last. THE INQUEST. Word was sent to Coroner Woltman, who went to the house and made official inquiries, which wero yesterday revealed at the inquest. Charles W. Bud- Aington testified substantially to what is set forth above, and Adelia Berry corroborated his statement. Dr. Albert H. Little testified that he used pressure upon the arteries, but that the deceased died in about ten minutes, Deputy Coroner Cushman testified that he mado an examination of the body and found three incised wounds on the back of the neck. One of them con- tained a small piece of glass. The carotid artery was found to be severed. Death, in his opinion, resulted trom shock and hemorrhage from this wound, ra the jury confirmed by a verdict of accidental death. THE LATE JUDGE DOWLING. When tho well known Judge Dowling died it was discovered that he had not left any will, and letters of administration were granted to his sister, and a settloment of the estate followed, Yesterday a peti- tion was presented from the administrator, in which it was stated that it had been discovered that Mrs, Mary Keeler, a sister of the deceased, had in her_pos- session $50,000 worth of bonds of the Ohio and Mixsis- sippi Railroad. which the petitioner claims belong to the estate, Mrs. Keeler stated that the bonds were given to her by ber brother before his death, and thatthey were her property absolutely. This was denied by the administrator, who said that the bonds were registered in the name of Mr. Dowling, and that if they had been a gift they would have been placed in her name so that they could be under her control, The further hearing of the case was adjoui SUDDEN CHANGE OF ~ OPINION. “Patrick McGill, you aro always getting drunk, This is the third time you've been before me in a very short time. Judge Smith gave the complainant a severe overhauling during the exami nation, and the prisoner's connsel desired to know from Sisson whether he was paid a regular salary or per capita for the number ot arrests he made, The wristlets alleged to havo been stolen and found with Schick were claimed by one of Ebrich’s clerks whon the trial was over. Judge Smith informed him that the property belonged to the person with whom it was tound. WILL OF DR.
