10 AFTER” THE BATTLE Opinions of Delegates to the Recent Democratic Convention. STRENGTH OF THE TICKET. fhe Canal Ring Charged with the De- feat of Anti-Tammi TAMMANY MEN JUBILANT. The delegates to the Albany Convention, with few sxceptions, returned to town yesterday, and many of them might be found during the day among tneir old baunts at the City Hall, the County Court House and the prominent saloons on Park row. Comptroller Kelly, Sheriff Reilly, County Clerk Gumbicton and Commissioner of Jurors Duniap, were not seen, nor re most of the prominent Tammany politicians, who, perbaps, really felt themselves entitled to a day of rest and leisuro after their arquous but successiul Tabors at the Convention. Some left Albany at mid- night and gave themselves no sleep, 80 fall were their nds of the previous day’s, “excitement, Others re- mained over till the morning and reached here in the afternoon, John Kelly bad not arrived home trom Albany late last evening. Wherever the politicians met around town, the proceedings and re- sults of the Convontion were vigorously canvassed, No event for some time past stirred up such animated controversy jn the ranks of the local democracy. Tammany men by sympathy and prejudice, but not Clearly according to the facts, claimed the results of tne Convention as a victory for their side and a plain “defeat of ant{-Tammany. TUE SENTIMENT OF TAMMANY. “No aid Aldermau Sam Lewis, who wasat Al- bany but not as a del e, “that Convention made one thing clear—that unti-Tammany is asham, If it bad remained at home and said nothing people might think there was something in it, just as foike imagine & man 16 very wise and knowing who keeps bis mouth shut But the leaders wanted to go to Albany, and, though every man among ‘them is on bis own book and wants to have an office and hates the next fellow that wants the same thing, they resolved among th ves to keep stil till they got recognized on the State Central Com- mittee. What does Green want? Why anything he can get, What does Morrissey want? Why, to be Senator again, and I don’t biame bim. It’s an bonor- abie ambition. | don’t blame any of thom—Frank Bixby, Ira Shafer, Emanuel B. Hart, James O’Brien, Charley Swan and the rest who want officee—but 1 say the party is composed of individuals like these wno are alter position and without following, They say they control a large vote, and that they will combine with tho republicans against Tammany.
