° FINANCISL AND. COMMERCIAL The Stcck Market Active and Weak. ANOTHER BREAK IN PRICES. GOLD 105 5-8 A 105 1-2. Government and Railroad Bonds Dull and Steady. HONEY ON CALL EASY AT 11-2 4 2 PER CENT, Watt Srrest, Tuurspay. June 7—6 P. df, } ‘Yho firmness in stocks which exisited at tho closo gosterday faded away this morning like a mist under the early beams of a vernal sun, * The coal stocks were tne first to sbrivol up in obedi- ance to that desiccating process which watered stocks of all kinds have, for tho last year or so, been forced to submit to, This squeezing process bas been going on for months past, as overybody knows, but the twist givon to the coal trade by the low pricos obtained at the late auc- tion sales bas nover been correctly reflected by the Board price of the stocks. While these latter repre- sentatives of values have remaimed compuratively Steady tho actun! traffic In the product itself is thor- sughly demoralized, It 19 stated that considorable lots. of coal knocked down at the public sales have not been called for by the purchasers, and are not likely to be within the stipulated time in view of the tree supplics which are being hurried to market. In corroboration of this Statement wo learn irom excellent authority that the Reading company have now afloat in this harbor nearly 50,000 tons of coal—costing $1,000 por day for ireight oharges—for which there is absolutely 20 mar- ket whatever, in addition itis jurthor aflirmed that 4bo Delaware and Lackawanna Company are supplying the loca! demand along the line of their road at trom 50 to 75 cents per ton less than was obtained at the auction sales, On top of this we bave to-day the announcement that the Pennsylvania company will scll on Wednes- day next 200,000 tons of coal, the same to be delivor- able in six weeks trom June 15, With a pressure ot this sort it is not at all remarkable that the prices of the anthracites should havo ylelded this morning from L to 3 per cent and havo failed to recover at the close. The railways which had been strong in the morning followed the course of the coul stocks later in’ tho day—possibly trom the bad example sot them, as there wero no depressing stories brought to bear. Among the ci-devant investment stocks Illinois Cen- tral remained steady, while Chicago and Alton ad- vanced trom 79 to 81, in face of a very damaging sur- rey ot {ts affairs, published in the Jndicator. Wo havo to means of judging how true or faiso the statemen: quay bo, and leave to the company itself the conduct of a funeral which 18 peculiarly its own, “The Delaware and Lackuwanna Company will pay the somi-anpual dividend, due July 2,0n tho Morris aud Essex stock, Laus deo, Sco will Contral and Hudson upon its own stock, 2 por cent, July 16, andon the Hurlom leased road the # per cent bulf yearly dividend, duo July 2 The Syndicate to-day sold $1,000,000 four-and-a-half per cents at 10114 11014, gold aud interest, holding sack any further offerings until the London price ar- tives to-morrow.
