ie MURDERED BY A NEGRO. & SALOON KEEPER BEATEN TO DEATH BY 4 DRUNKEN NEGRO WHO WAS TEYING TO ROB HIN, A murder was last night perpetrated by & Megro named Wellington Schuyler, which was Attended by circumstances of peculiar- ly aggravating character, ‘Tho culprit ip the caso had entered the establishment of a quietiy disposed man und by an attempt to rob him bad ex- cited and drawn him into conilict, The murdered inan had only endeavored to save bis property. At appears that in the early portion of the evening Wellington Scuyler, a burly negro, who bears no very enviablo reputation in tho Fifteenth precinct, became intoxicated and visited a number of saloous iu that part of the city, in cach of them displaying violence, which called for interference on the part of the per- sons in charge. At a lato hour he entered tho saloon of Nathan Corbin, at No. Thompson street, and staggering up to the bar ip @ hostile way, eyed the son of the proprietor, who Was standing there, A bottle of bitters on a shelf seemed to attract bis attention, and without saying a word he moved bebind the bar aud grasped at it, The young aman told bim to be off, but he paid no heed to bim, aad when resistance was olfered bim he struck the youth with bis fiat, kmocking bim backward, while with bis other hand he seized tne coveted bottle.
