The committee bavo found, however, that a system based on the gradual imerease of a parabolic curve is only one which will give the correct allowance be- tween yachts, varying slightly, and recommend | that plan. In order to give all members an oppor tunity to be heard on the important subject the com- mittee advised that it be postponed until the next Boctal meeting of the club, when each member be allowed five minutes to give his views, the Commodore having tho power to extend any epeaker’s time to filteen minutes, This motion was carried, RACKS AND REGATTAS FOR 1877. JUVENILE OPERA AT THE OLYMPIC. ‘There is a peculiar pleasure felt by many persons ip seeing children Imitate tho actions of mature people and try to express foclings and ideas which they do not understand, The charm of such scting was potent when the Bateman sisters played ‘Bombastes Furioso” twenty years ago and when tho lutle fiddler, who, just belore he died, said, “Dear God, pity a tired out little fellow,” used, like Tiny Tim, to utter sweet music in quart and quaver- ing tones, Last night the opera of “Crispino e la Comare’’ was sung at the Olympic Theatre by a well the eldest of known company of children, whom is only fifteen years of and the effect was like that of seeing a performanco through the wrong end of a lorgnette., Passions and purposes appeared little, and it was amusing te behold there small creatures trying to act like men and wo- mea, For children the performance was remarkable, but it could never be forgotten that they were chi! dreo, The tinest presentations were those of Ui ie by Miss Ida Ross, who dinirably tramed, and thas of Annetta by Miss The weakuess.of the entertainment ex- ists in the tact that the voices of children are much alike, and that they cannot adequately render con- certed music written for sopranos, contraltos, tenors, baritones and basses.
