When he was culled by Mr. Bell he told a story which bore upon its face the impress of truth. Said he:—I came over from Williamsburg, where I live, and met thw young teiiow, Edward Wilson; be had not avy coat on bis back; ‘says he to ie, “Vooper, L am broke; says 1, “f'pa "sa poor thing, Ed; where have you been working?” “i've been driving a tru bays, “and I’ve gota stake; if you will come with m 1think we ean make $20.” “Well, Ed.,” don't care much about going. because | think 1 get_me ipio difiiculty, and I would like to go to work in the mdrning;?’ “0b,’” says he, “I can pleage you amy word I can do it easy and there will never be any- thing more said about ity? says 1. “1 will go with you; so he says, “Have you got anything to put it jay?
