Ridgway, a# usual, got and tolled it for several rods along the eastern boundary line, but Mott headed him off and sent it tn the opposite direc- tion, and Augustus Jay also aided bim and sent the ball near bis goal He hit it aga:n and it was within a few feet of the goal and directly opposite, One of the reds now knocked it out 10 order to prevent their opponents trom foliowing up the luck of their captain Mott, after the reds bad got the ball away, made a good back stroke. Wiltiain Jay was obliged to disinount to secure his mallet, and there was no little excitement, all the players rushing about like mad- men, Mott made another back stroke and two knock-outs followed, The ball being near the Diues' goal their opponents contested every inch of the ground, anu were constantly urging their ponies, They got the ball away irom the blues’ goal, after which Ridgway gave ita good backhauder, Griswold here played well tor the blues, and bis de- Nght was to be near Ridgway; horses ‘now in close quarters, and the ball wns out ot sight’ The bluesin a ond more had it near their — goal, and the reds were repeatedly calling out to their assistants to ‘Knock {tf out," this being done atleast a dozen times, the ball being within a few tect of the blues’ goai for ten minutes, Rogers got it away finally, uad W. Jay sené 1 back, followed by Mott, who “lifted” it in grand style, At this point Douglas was ordered to stand in front of ‘the biues’ goal, the reds seeing piainiy that their op- ponenta were playing remarkably well and that 1 Was necessary to put their best man in the position, It proved to be a wise move. Kobbing got ik away, and he found a valuable assistant in Douglas Ridgway gave {t a powerlul knock, aud it would have gone a long distance but that it was stopped by coming in contact with a pouy’s hoot, Some good ‘playimg followed tn front of the couches on the west side of the lot, and the re were heard to inquire as to bow much ionger they h: to play before the game would be catled. ball again was near the blues’ goul and there was no little excitement all rowud. ihe reds wero again engiged in knocking «itu, and it was a lon, time bofure they could get tt auy distance in the opposite direction, Ridgway got it away finally, but the captam of the blues sent It back with @ backstroke, Five of the redsat this polut missed & good ball, and it was again sent with great force near the blues' goal by Cuptain Jay, The latter's assixt- auts Were repeatedly heard crying out to him to do shat which they thought would ve ‘to their advantage, ‘The ball was now in the southeast corner of tho lot, and im 4 second 1t was in the ceutro end Captain Jay gave ita powertul knock, sending it away over tho heads of the players. Thorne und Captain Jay for tho blues and Robbins and Hunnewell tor the reds played well, Some exciting sport followed and some of the piayers were carrying their muliets contrary to the ruies of polo, The umpire promptly notiied them of the fact. The ball was now along the eastern boundary, where the spectators had an excellent oppor- tunity io seo the fun, It was soon, however, bear reds’ goal and the blues were on baud aud proinpily adopted the tactics of the res and repeatealy knocked the bull outside the boundary. Mott got posseamon of it and sent i$ a long distance, but Douglas, of the reds, sent it Back, and 16 was evi dent that the blues would not be able to get the ball anywhere bear their goal again; buy ne d tought nobly, und have every reasou wo be proud of their playiug to-day. THR REDS VICTORIOUS. The reds, knowing that the time was nearly w thought 18 was better ior them to try and keep the buil whore it was than to attempt to make goal and run tho chance of allowing tho blues to gain possession of tt again. Heuce 1s was kept in the porthwest corner tor several minutes, and finally, the time being ball-past Six, the umpire called game. The rods were victorious, having mado the first and only goal within the specified lime, Thus ended a game which bad lasted one hvur, and no better playing hax been witnessed tp this coun: try than was developed nu this long, eventtul game, in which both sides convinced critical spectators that they were masters of pola, ADDITIONAL GAMES. Two more games followed, James Gordon Bennett and C. N, Scott, who wore blue, and H, Ridgway and Fairman Rogers, woaring red, making up the list of players. The rst game ‘was decided in favor of the Ddiues in five minutes The second gawe was, indeed, @ brilliant one, and the blucs ared to have had it from the start. They played unasually weil and no better hits were mado during the alternoon than they were seen to make; they ropoutedly “litted” the ball and ouce sent it quite a distance in the air, Ridgway got control of it sev- eral times, but he and his partner were no match tor their opponents, aud in nine minutes the blues were again the winners. It was now dark and the visitors lett the ground feel- ing that they had witnessed the tinest polo playing of the season, ANOTHER SAVINGS BANK GONE. The Trades’ Savings Bank, No. 224 West Twenty- third street, was closed yesterday on an order of Judge Landou, of the Supreme Court, on the complaint of Deputy Superintendent Henry C. Lamb, of the Banking Depariment. The report of the bank for July stated that it beld $97,209 03 of assets, with a surplus of $2,204 97, $04,913 06 Veing due depositors, Its ro- sourees are reported distributed as tollows:—Bonds And mortgages, $55,375; bonds of cities in this State, $7,000; amount loaned on collaterals, $11,250; cash in other banks or trust companies, $10,061 95, and cash on hand, $8,220 13 An examination made by Mr. Reid, bank examiner tn January last, did not show an Ding materiaily dillerout from this statement, although the excess of income was shown to be only $643 49, { and he suspecied that untrue statements were mado regarding matters of which be could take no proof by the officers, Upon tho recommendation of tho Supe imtendent he made frequent visits to the bank in con- sequence of this suspicion, aud on August 9 last ho made an offictul report of it8 condition to the depart- ment, of which the following is an abstract:—The resources as claimed were as follows: —Three bonds and mortgages on the property of O.
