AN EMPLOYER CUTS THE THROAT OF 4 WORK- MAN DURING AN AFFRAY ON THE STBEET. A murder was committed in Brooklyn lest night ‘The victim was a workingman named Michael Hussey, and bis slayer was Henry L. Bull, President of the Bull | Patent Arms Company. It appears that on January 28 Buil went to Europe on business comnected with his | establishment, which is located om the northwest corner of Pearl and Front streets, Brooklyn, Joel L. Canuon, who is secretary of the company, is a brother- in-law of Bull, and resides in the sume house with hua, at the corner of Pearl and Nassau streets, Before going to Europe Bull placed the business of the company in the hands of Wm. L. Headley, a lawyer, doing business at No. 85 William street, New York, to whom he gave @ power of attorney. Thero were two work- men employed in the manufactory during Buil's absence, named William Healey, machintst, and Miche) Hussey helper, The workmen concluded that Mr. Headley was not paying them sufflcient wages, and on | March 21 called at the aflice of the attorney and de- | manded that they should have more money. They were told that there was 10 more money for them, at which | } ley grew enraged, being under the influence of | i liquor, and said he should have that money trom Bull or he would “swing for i." The attorney having heard that the man was grew alarmed and oifered him some money, when a frieutt of Healey opportunely arrived and ‘took him Mr. Headley reported the matter subsequently | to the Distrret Attorney, who told him he must take care of bimself and guard against the mun, About a week ago Mr. Bull returned irom his visit to Europe, | and the workmen cailed upon him with reference to & settlement of what they conceived to be their jast claims. Mr Ball wold them to wait tll he could confer with his lawyer, and he would see how their claims stood, Yesterday Mr, Bull and tis wile visited Fort Hamilton and returned to their house about hali-past seven o'clock. About half- post nine Healey and Hussey called on their employer aud made a statement of their case, asserting that they had been grievously wronged. Both men were under the influence of liquor, and high and augry words were excoaunged between all the parties. Bull was struck by Healey, who is a bur heavy man, and he called his brother-in-law, Canuon, who was Up stairs, to his assistance. A general seuille then appears to have ensued, in which Bull was pitied against Hussey, and Healey wus straggling with Cannon, the wife of the latter aud Mrs. Bull A few moments after the opening of the affray Hussey was seen to stagger over to the other side of the street and sink, bigeding from a ghastly wound in Lis throat, on the sidewalk. Word was sent to the Second precinct and to the Washington sireet station, and Sergeant Dyer, Detective Curran and Patrolmen farly and Hogan were early on the scene, An am- Dulance was summoned, but Hussey died before he reached the hospital. Bull, Cannon and Healey were taken into custody. No knite was found in the vicin- ity last might, though search was made for the weapon, Bull is alleged to have said to one Charles Meyers, a grocer’s clerk, when arrested, ‘I bad to do it,” He 16 about thirty-five years of age and a native of Kugland, Healey, when in custody and on the way to the station house, told Sergeant Martin that Bull was a bad man, and had killed a man in Kentucky. Bull is « quiet, in? telligent looking man, and does not appear to taink that ho has committed’ a crime. PROBABLE MURDER. About eleven o'clock lust night Richard Bell, aged twenty-six, of No, 262 William street, during a quarrel in his owa House was fatally stabbed in the left breast by John Keenun, aged twenty.
