CLEANING, THE. STREETS, ‘EE POLICE COMMISSIONERS PREPARING FOR ‘TRE: WARM WEATHER--NEW SWEEPING MA- ‘The Police Commissionets, in view of the approach of ‘warm weather and of the fnct tbat a large number of ‘strangers will visit the city during the ensuing three or four months, elther. on their way to or returning from the Centennial Exhibitior, have been for some time making atrangements for a more thorough and effective service in the Street Cleaning Department, ‘* RW SWEEPING Macatyes. The Bureau will have next Monday fourteen new Sweeping machines ready jor duty, each machine rep- Fesenting the labor of ten men when in operation. ‘This addition to the present force of 600 workmen and 850 carts will enable a much larger area to be covered, and localities that bave uot before now received sufll- clent attention will be cleaned more frequently.
